Publisher's summary

When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.

But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her... a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards... and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

This Was My First Nicolas Sparks Novel

I am not much into sappy love stories and this is what I expected when I decided to buy Safe Haven. I thought something easy on the ears would be a good choice to do housework by. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The characters had depth and substance and it wasn't pages and pages of verbal and physical love making. The twist at the end was enough to make me consider trying another Sparks novel. Recommended for the love story lovers as well as someone just interested in a good listen sans much sap.

Was pleasantly surprised

Have been finding Nicholas Sparks getting a little too predictable, but this story is a good one. I like his bit of mystery and suspense, and his surprise ending.

Excellence at it’s best.

This is such a beautiful written story. I would get caught up in the story forgetting my own life. I never wanted the story to end. I can only guess what happens to Alex and Katie. It would be great to have a continuation of the story.

Performance was beautifully read!

Rebecca Lowman read with such warmth and passion that she made you FEEL the story lines. She made the story come to life as if you were part of the book itself. Another great read by Nicolas Sparks, one of my favorite authors! Thank you both!

Great story. Unenjoyable narrator.

Would you consider the audio edition of Safe Haven to be better than the print version?

No. I will never listen to another audio book narrated by Rebecca Lowman. Her voice was irritating.

What did you like best about this story?

Enjoyed how "Katie"was able to love again.

How could the performance have been better?

I did not like the narrator. I would rather hear the story read in one voice. Her tone while being "Kevin" was horrible. I believe a man should have narrated this book bc of so many male parts.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No bc it was 10 hours long. If I was on a trip, I would listen to it all of the way through.

Awesome book - incredible narrator

Where does Safe Haven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Safe Haven currently ranks at the top of the audiobooks I've listened to.

What did you like best about this story?

Admittedly, I'm a huge Nicholas Sparks fan. But, I take each book on its own merit. Safe Haven is my third time listening to one of his books and I must say this was the best. I found the story itself very riveting. Never did I get bored with listening to it. And, the end of it had me staying up late just to find out what would happen.

Which character – as performed by Rebecca Lowman – was your favorite?

My favorite character, as performed by Rebecca Lowman, was Jo. I could actually truly picture her through the voice that Rebecca used. Bravo, Rebecca!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I would say from the middle to the end is what I found most riveting. I didn't want to pause it to do anything else.

Any additional comments?

I will probably focus my book searches on more Nicholas Sparks books and more books narrated by Rebecca Lowman. And, I certainly hope the two will come together again in the future.
