Publisher's summary

After discovering six gold Roman coins buried in the mud of the Devil's Dyke, Barnabas Sackett enthusiastically invests in goods that he will offer for trade in America. But Sackett has a powerful enemy: Rupert Genester, nephew of an earl, wants him dead. A battlefield promise made to Sackett’s father threatens Genester’s inheritance. So on the eve of his departure for America, Sackett is attacked and thrown into the hold of a pirate ship. Genester's orders are for him to disappear into the waters of the Atlantic. But after managing to escape, Sackett makes his way to the Carolina coast. He sees in the raw, abundant land the promise of a bright future. But before that dream can be realized, he must first return to England and discover the secret of his father's legacy.

Good story, good reader, good listen!

If you could sum up Sackett's Land in three words, what would they be?

The Sacketts rock

What other book might you compare Sackett's Land to and why?

All of them, there awesome.

Have you listened to any of John Curless’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first listen from him, but now I've listened to most of his and I enjoy them all.

Who was the most memorable character of Sackett's Land and why?

Why Barnabas Sackett of course.

Any additional comments?

When I've listened to them all, I start over again because I feel like a Sackett so it keeps me alive and I remember my brothers.......weird huh? I named my first born son Nolan, enough said.

What drives a man to go out into the wilderness?

I have been in love with Louis L'Amours Sackett series since I inherited them as a child after my Grandfather passed away. What makes a man risk everything to leave his home and go out into the wild? What attracts someone to the risks and discomforts of frontier life? This is a great adventure story, and the production and reading of it are done so well; I can recommend this audiobook to anyone interested in the genre.

The Beginning

An atypical Glamour novel, because it was basted in England. I have read several of his books, all in west and so this was quite a surprise. I e looking forward to the next adventure.

The first in an excellent series by Louis L'Amour.

You won't be disappointed. Louis could paint a picture with every paragraph without getting bogged down in details.
If you've never read them the Sackett series is quite a tail through American history told from the experiences of one family. For those with a taste of the American experience from colonial to late west this series is a one of a kind.

Great story!

This is the first book of the series and I cannot wait to start the next one. The reader is very good and the story line is also. I plan on listening to the entire series.
