Publisher's Summary

Son of a feared fighting man, Barnabas Sackett inherited his father's fiery temper, sense of justice and warrior skills. Declared an outlaw in his native England, Barnabas set his daring sights on the opportunity of the New World. The ruthless piracy of the open seas and the unknown dangers of the savage American wilderness lay before him. And so did the thrill of discovery and the chance to establish a bold new future if he survived.

    "It's a thoroughly enjoyable listen."

The dialect and pace was engaging. I love this Sackett starter story! Offers a different setting from the western genre he abides within.

    "enjoyed "

this book took me back to a simple time in the world. I enjoyed the story. it's been a long time since I've heard a good, clean, wholesome story. this was it. I plan on reading the rest of the series. definitely recommend. L'Amour placed a fictional character in a real world and told a good story in the process.

    "Experience L'Amour's West"

Excellent! Over the years I have read nearly all of L'Amour's books and have listened to the recorded ones. What fun to bring the West alive as I travel to that"far and distant land" on my vacation.

Audible initiates the creative imagery whereas television dulls the senses.

    "Western to the bone"
Where does Sackett's Land rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

L'Amour was a switch from Jim Buther or Kant or Mark Twain. The Sackett's rank with The Frontiersman or The Call of the Wild, by Jack London. It was as much fun as reading Robert Service Poetry...When you just got to hanker down on the outhouse commode and need a good book and a Sears Catalog...this is the book.

What other book might you compare Sackett's Land to and why?

A narrative historical fiction similar to the writings of Leon Uris, Zane Grey or Jack London.

What does John Curless bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He talks the talk and feeling into the text.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me think how well we have it compared to our ancestors.

    Any additional comments?

Even though I am a Cultural Anthropologist, writers of the quality of Louis L'Amour can be as intellectually stimulating as Hemingway or Tolstoy and a lot more fun then Poe or Chekov.
