Don't miss other titles in The Sacketts series.

I love this series of books and Louis L'Amour.
Louis L'Amour writes beautifully of heroes. Barnaby Sackett is not the only hero of the time. Unlike a lot of stories, Sackett does not have to be Superman. He draws in helpers whom he leads.
Like most readers, he thinks the English of that period spoke as they do today. WRONG. They spoke as MidAtlantic speakers do today. So it is annoying to hear "wep on" for weapon, "wah er" for water, and many more. Aside from that stutter... not bad.
Yes it is very well read and very interesting.
I intend to listen to whole series of Sacketts.
A Christian, Husband, & Geek - in that order!!
This is probably the best westerns series book of all time- if you like westerns even a little - get this series now!!
Yes and I have done so twice already. First I read the saga, then purchased the volumes one by one on cassette. Now I am buying the digital audio book.
Escape from the a bully lord. The running recollection of Barnabas' father's teaching.
I can see the characters through his voice.
Barnabas to share his earthy wisdom.
Difficult to put down. Once finished the next story is quickly begun.
History, adventure and heroes
The series of the Sackett family that follows this book are equally enjoyable and informative. I am listening to Book 4, Jubal Sackett at the moment and plan to continue to enjoy the entire series.
The pathos of Abigail's decision to leave her beloved Barnabas for the sake of their daughter's upbringing.
If it were practical I would like to have listened to all in one sitting, but I listen while doing the mundane things needful around my home.
This is definitely a book and series that I would recommend particularly as the language is devoid of offensive words and sexual situations are beautifully described without being tasteless. The historical accuracy and information within the story add greatly.
This is not at all a western story.
John Curless is dry and boring.
I really enjoy the sackett story's but will never buy another done by Curless.
After owning the collection of Loius L'Amour books and reading them again over the years . I enjoy listening to the narrater telling the story , giving me the feeling i was there .Thankyou
each story is different so i wont compare
start to end
i would not rename it
Ranks with another 5 Star Author Wilbur Smith
Narrator does help to make a memorable experience !
I feel like I got a glimpse into the turn of the 17th century in England and The New World.
You could do a lot worse than trying to emulate the character traits of Barnabas Sackett.
I enjoyed the subtle changes in tone of tener of the voice so that not only could the listener more easily identify who was speaking, it was simply more enjoyable to have it "acted" out.
Why, Barnabas Sackett, of course.
