Thanks and respect to the women that served and paid a high price. You are still gorgeous Shi; your scars make you even more beautiful.
Stories set in the late 16th, early 17th century don't present themselves very often in pop culture; especially those set in what was to become America. The plot, as it is in just about all of the author's works, is weak and repetitive. The characters are at best 2 dimensional, most of his characters do not even reach that level; especially the women. Then there is his take on the American Indian; he seems to think that other than fighting wars they are barely competent. Plus his depiction of any nation is pretty much identical to any other. based for the most part on the Apache or Comanche tribes of the mid to late 19th century. This author isn't for anyone who appreciates balance, nuance or characters with depth or complexity. On the other hand the story touches on aspects of history not normally depicted; it moves quickly and has plenty of action.

This book is an old friend. If you are looking for an exciting, action packed book this is the one for you.
The dialect and pace was engaging. I love this Sackett starter story! Offers a different setting from the western genre he abides within.
this book took me back to a simple time in the world. I enjoyed the story. it's been a long time since I've heard a good, clean, wholesome story. this was it. I plan on reading the rest of the series. definitely recommend. L'Amour placed a fictional character in a real world and told a good story in the process.
Excellent! Over the years I have read nearly all of L'Amour's books and have listened to the recorded ones. What fun to bring the West alive as I travel to that"far and distant land" on my vacation.
