In this work, Horace Rumpole returns to delight us with seven new cases. We find our hero jousting with the Devil, being wooed by a beautiful violin player, and even up before the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Bar Council.

An excellent book. Very well read. Educational and very Funny. This is one of his best books so if you don't like it don't bother with any other Rumpole books.
Classics, history, historical fiction, marketing, Napoleonic stuff and of course 'Boys own Adventure'. This is my bent. Occasional self help as well.
Timothy West is fantastic reading these books. He gets the accents perfect and really does a great job on timing. Not once did I think any of the characters where not quite right. Laughed out loud a number of times with John Mortimer's writing and although this production is a number of short stories, that are not too taxing on the old grey matter, they are enjoyable to listen to. Lovely to listen to whilst commuting home late at night or whilst enjoying that last glass of Port before bed time. Do yourself a favour and have an enjoyable time listening to these works.
Timothy West does excellently, though I wish Bill Wallis's incomparable characterization was available for all the Rumpole books. If the half-dozen I've tried, though, this is probably the strongest set of stories. Funny and full of Mortimer's keen (if jaundiced) observation of humans and their foibles.
Timothy West is excellent as Rumpole (so is Bill Wallis but he is a good character actor) and, of course, the stories are intriguing as full of wit. I would recommend all of these to listeners. It makes the morning drive into work fizz and sparkle like nothing else without dulling the senses. If you forget the name of the reader it really becomes Leo McKern. Yup it is that good
"Voice level too variable"
I only managed to listen to a short part of this book because Timothy West kept dropping his voice to a whisper so that I had trouble hearing it.
I loved everything about this book. The stories were funny and Timothy West makes a great Rumpole. Will be buying another Rumpole asap
"I got bored"
I enjoyed the TV series (many years ago) and I thought this would be lightly entertaining. It is, but not enough. The stories are episodes, and each has a similar pattern to the one before. I gave up after about three.
