Publisher's summary

Eadie Boone, an artist and former beauty queen, tackles everything with gusto and flair. But tailing her wayward husband is proving to be an exasperating chore.

Nita Broadwell, a good Southern girl from a good Southern family, is jolted out of complacency when she discovers condoms in her husband's shirt pocket. Meanwhile, she is slipping into a steamy romance with a hunky handyman 13 years her junior.

Lavonne Zibolsky is saddled with planning the annual Broadwell & Boone law firm party. That and her lackluster marriage have her seeking solace in the refrigerator.

Bound by years of friendship, the women heed their collective spousal betrayals as a wake-up call and band together to exact sweet revenge. The take-charge trio will see to it that the punishment is just, exquisitely humiliating, and downright hilarious.

Critic reviews

"Hell hath no fury, as the saying goes, and the wives concoct a deliciously devious scheme....Irresistibly entertaining, Holton's debut is hilarious, a cunning, rollicking addition to the popular Southern 'steel magnolias' genre." ( Booklist)
"Genuinely hilarious moments...and characters that would make good friends." ( Kirkus Reviews)
"[Skewers] idiosyncratic social mores in the New South." ( Publishers Weekly)

Kudzu

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This story was a little rambling.

Which character – as performed by Marguerite Gavin – was your favorite?

I didn't really prefer any character over another.

Was Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes worth the listening time?

I could have the book quicker, but it was fun to listen.

Any additional comments?

Audio books have come down in price but I wish there were more audio books priced lower.

The story is good, the narrator is terrible!

What did you love best about Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes?

A great story about the strength of southern women. I found myself often wishing I had the guts to do some of the things they did in this book. An enjoyable listen except for the narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

A book I could relate to.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Marguerite Gavin?

Moira Driscoll. She narrated "Charming Grace" by Deborah Smith. The story took place in Dahlonega, GA, and her character voices were some of the best. She did a male character that was from Cajun country in Louisiana. I got so caught up in the book it was hard to remember that that the same woman was doing all the voices, male and female, in the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When one of the couples got back together after the adultery.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this short series, "The Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutantes"

Pleased

This sort of book isn't always my cup of tea, but I must say I quite enjoyed the "Debs". Cathy Holton does a good job of creating characters that you care about and keeping the story flowing. The narration was done well, though not flawlessly. A different delivery could have made the humorous parts funnier, and there were some mispronunciations, but overall she did an adequate job.

Laughs like Only the South Can Provide

What was special about this book that sets it apart from all the other southern genre and chic lit is the unique and separate character of each of the three women. They were not just a blurry mirror - image of one another. IL liked their *criminal* designs on the material world without being victums of it. The best part is that the ending is not that everybody nuckles under and calls it *living happily ever after. Woops, did I ruin it for you

Great summer read

Hits home for southern women of a certain age. Captures the dichotomy of being both independent and submissive.

What a Fun Listen

Just a fun picture of why you don't mess with Southern women. Ever. I giggled all the way through and have recommended it to others already.

Enjoyed

Took a bit of listening to get into it but once I was, I really enjoyed it. The southern drawl of the reader was somewhat irritating after a while, but not enough to stop.
