The Valkyrie Kara stood alone against the Ragnarok horde on Earth to ensure that the Asgard race and Valhalla could escape. For 5,000 years she has fought and evaded the Ragnarok race on Earth, just waiting for her people to return. A human woman, Kate, joins her fight, showing as much conviction and valor as any Valkyrie. A great first book from the Valkyrie series by Erik Schubach
The powerful ending.
To many to choose one.
Made me laugh .... a lot
I am impressed by the wealth of detail Mr. Schubach incorporates into his Valkyrie stories. Mr. Schubach writes the way every day man/women thinks. It's not all perfect grammar or poetry - it’s just hard facts with a comic twist. The book has action - history - and life lessons all rolled up in a good story. I would say it is well worth the credit! I hope his other books in this series become available to Audible Books!!!!
Schubach takes the classic Norse mythology and twists it. Instead of the gods of Valhalla we have an alien race. Instead of the Valkyrie and the Einherjar preparing for an event called Ragnarok, they are fighting other aliens called Ragnarok. In the story the ancient norse mythology was actually all started by Kara, the main character, when she got drunk and told the tales of her people to a group of vikings.
Though all the characters are a little larger than life, since they are super old and powerful aliens, they all still feel real. And Schubach adds plenty of humor into his books too that make the characters feel that much more real.
I absolutely loved this book and the series just gets better with each book. I highly recommend it.
Yes I definately will. It was funny and fast paced. Also the action was great. |
It is very hard too choose just one, so I have too say Kate, Kara and Arena. They were funny and badass.
No I have not, but her voice was a perfect fit 5/5.
Hah I don't think that would end well too be honest =)
If you read and loved Iron Druid Chronicles this is definately for you. Its like the female version of Atticus (Not a copy or anything, just realy well written and performed imho), just different Mythologi. And their not gods just realy long lived and powerful because of Nano tech, so its more Sci fi than Fantasy.
A fictional scientific explanation of the myths containing Thor, Oden, and the Asgard.
The least interesting aspect of the story is that some parts felt rushed. I would have loved to learn more about the city and the main character's adventures on Earth and on Asgard.
She brought life to the characters. I wouldn't have experienced the dialect and passion Hollie associated with the characters.
Waiting for book 2
It is well written with a very good story line that keeps you interested and wondering what is next.
There wasn't any one thing, but the whole story itself.
She did a 5 star performance. She played Kara so believable.
The main character Kara
Looking forward to the next book. Can't wait. Looking for more books like this.
I would, without a doubt, recommend this book to anyone! It is full of action, romance, and wit!!!!
The characterization of this book is on par with the engaging characters of Erik's MOTS books. He has also created another world that I just want to step into and never leave!
That is such a hard question. I really love Arina and Kate, but I think my favorite would be Kara. She is such a strong woman, holding the line for so many years. She is also so smart, as she has taught her nanites so much
I am not sure....Um, After 5000 years of holding the line, she is finally taking her rightful place in Asgard, if she can live long enough for help to arrive.
This is a terrific book! I highly recommend this book to everyone that wants to read a book filled with compelling, interesting characters, an intricate world, lots of action, and just the right amount of romance.
OFCOURSE!! I just can't get enough of Hollie Jackson's voice!
Well... i haven't thought about this one really... i love the valkyrie Chronicles and it's amazing in its own way
Well i have to say both but i'm leaning more towards Kate her husky voice just sends shivers down my spine everytime.
Kara ofcourse! i can only imagine what it feels like to see your friends and family age and die while you yourself barely age a day.
This was my first ever audiobook to listen too and finish. I love Hollie's voice. She really made the characters come alive! and it felt like i was in with them listening to them and watching the story unfold! and i will definitely listen to the rest!
Being able to experience the joy and pride of the characters as expressed through Hollies' read... Yes absolutely!
I'd compare it to the "Iron Druid Chronicles" by Kevin Hearne because it takes a wonderful slant on classic Mythos. Definitely more Sci-Fi, Stargate SG-1 might be a better comparison.
A wonderful voice to listen to, you can practically feel the emotions of the characters coming through.
Rise of Valhalla
The first few chapters felt a little forced. Kate was just too accepting and willing to believe everything. Also we heard nothing from her point of view until well over mid way though the book. A few more chapters of character development would have helped flesh out things more. And as wonderful a reader as Hollie is her presentation of male characters will hopefully get better as the series progresses. I'm going to be re-listening to this book with joy time and again.
Yes, I would recommend this audiobook to a friend! The story is fun and different, the characters are easy to fall in love with, and it leaves you wanting more. Immediately after finishing I wanted to research more on Norse mythology and I love the direction that it goes in. I can't wait to listen to the next book!
The scenes with action and switching character perspective were the most interesting!
I haven't listened to any of Hollie Jackson's performances before but she did a good job and added 'attitude' and 'spunk' which was fun.
Kate of course. She would be fun to get riled up.
I am so glad I gave the novel a chance. Great take on Norse mythology , with grand characters. It is wonderful to have the Valerie take centre stage, rather than the usual Odin and Thor stories. I like the blend of sci-fi, fantasy and mythology, set within modern parameters.
A few scenes made me smile and one or 2 actually made me laugh.
It isn't as funny as the iron druid series, but it definitely holds its own.
Can't wait for book 2!
