Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon comes the next thrilling installment in her blockbuster Dark-Hunter® series

Harm no human…

A hired gunslinger, William Jessup Brady lived his life with one foot in the grave. He believed that every life had a price. Until the day when he finally found a reason to live. In one single act of brutal betrayal, he lost everything, including his life. Brought back by a Greek goddess to be one of her Dark-Hunters, he gave his immortal soul for vengeance and swore he'd spend eternity protecting the humans he'd once considered prey.

Orphaned as a toddler, Abigail Yager was taken in by a family of vampires and raised on one belief—Dark-Hunters are the evil who prey on both their people and mankind, and they must all be destroyed. While protecting her adoptive race, she has spent her life eliminating the Dark-Hunters and training for the day when she meeting the man who killed her family: Jess Brady.

A gun in the hand is worth two in the holster…

Jess has been charged with finding and terminating the creature who's assassinating Dark-Hunters. The last thing he expects to find is a human face behind the killings, but when that face bears a striking resemblance to the one who murdered him centuries ago, he knows something evil is going on. He also knows he's not the one who killed her parents. But Abigail refuses to believe the truth and is determined to see him dead once and for all.

Brought together by an angry god and chased by ancient enemies out to kill them both, they must find a way to overcome their mutual hatred or watch as one of the darkest of powers rises and kills both the races they've sworn to protect.

Native Past to Present

This book delves into the past and leaves you wanting to get to the next part. I could not stop listening. I stayed up way too late several nights, just wanting to know more. I loved this book.

another good one

The reviews for this was iffy. However, I quite liked it yes a lot of new people to keep up with but it was a interesting change of pace. I really really liked Sundown. The last bonus was excellent to. Artemis was surprising. Good read.

Great read!

As I do al of her books, I did enjoy listening to Retribution. I think the main reason that I did not give it 5 stars was because they didn't bring in many of the typical characters to play a role in the story (ex: Kieren, Julien, Ash, Simi, etc...). I know that there were a couple older characters in there, but I love hearing about the character updates that she usually gives us during the story. I just wanted those older characters to have more of a part so we could hear what they're doing now. I do give her credit for adding the bonus portion in there at the end...the one about Ash and Tory and the birth of their baby. That was great! Thanks Sherrilyn!

Was left hanging ...

Don't get me wrong -- I loved the book, and really enjoy the Dark Hunter series. However, I felt a little let down when the end came, having expected more from the build up of the story. The story of Buffalo, Butterfly, Coyote and Wren was intriguing -- however, I felt in the end as if it was unresolved in the bigger story of the book, with only the disclaimer that more would be expected in time to come.

Also, the main theme of the Dark Hunter books was almost skipped over here, with various forays into the realm, and yet kind of like swiss cheese. I wish Ms. Kenyon had written a longer book, where everything was more part of the whole, and not so many scenes strung together.

Hopefully, she plans to pull this together in a further story down the road, but I have my doubts. And, I will say, the bonus at the end of the book was great!

A little harder to follow the story line.

I'm a fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon and have read all the dark hunter series. I had a little bit more trouble following this book, because it entered so much new info and hard to keep characters straight. Look at Sherrilyn's website for additional help.

Dark Hunters Grow Stronger

It's amazing how Kenyon can continue her lengthy series and maintain the level of interest and investment with her readers. Each book is unique to its characters and also carries the strands of the overall story line. I just can't get enough of this series and I adore listening to it on audio. If I close my eyes, it nearly plays out before me like a movie.
