Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon comes the next thrilling installment in her blockbuster Dark-Hunter® series

Harm no human…

A hired gunslinger, William Jessup Brady lived his life with one foot in the grave. He believed that every life had a price. Until the day when he finally found a reason to live. In one single act of brutal betrayal, he lost everything, including his life. Brought back by a Greek goddess to be one of her Dark-Hunters, he gave his immortal soul for vengeance and swore he'd spend eternity protecting the humans he'd once considered prey.

Orphaned as a toddler, Abigail Yager was taken in by a family of vampires and raised on one belief—Dark-Hunters are the evil who prey on both their people and mankind, and they must all be destroyed. While protecting her adoptive race, she has spent her life eliminating the Dark-Hunters and training for the day when she meeting the man who killed her family: Jess Brady.

A gun in the hand is worth two in the holster…

Jess has been charged with finding and terminating the creature who's assassinating Dark-Hunters. The last thing he expects to find is a human face behind the killings, but when that face bears a striking resemblance to the one who murdered him centuries ago, he knows something evil is going on. He also knows he's not the one who killed her parents. But Abigail refuses to believe the truth and is determined to see him dead once and for all.

Brought together by an angry god and chased by ancient enemies out to kill them both, they must find a way to overcome their mutual hatred or watch as one of the darkest of powers rises and kills both the races they've sworn to protect.

Southern Drawl...Cowboys...ancient Warriors

Where does Retribution rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's in the top ten. I loved this book! It had plenty of action and humor.

What other book might you compare Retribution to and why?

The other DH books. Somehow the world's always in danger and humans need protecting.

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

I loved Choo Co La Tah's accent. Very British and very cool. Jess's voice was awesome. Cowboys rule.

Who was the most memorable character of Retribution and why?

Choo Co La Tah because he's an elder and a protector not only of the world but of Jess and Angela. He was fantastic.

Disappointing and confusing.

I love the DarkHunter series. At least I did until this book. This series started out with the Greek, Roman and Atlantian gods as the basis for the stories. In this novel we've been introduced to Native American gods now. I'm tired of new characters, monsters and god. There is enough of these to start bringing this series to and end. Lets start moving toward a close please!!

Disappointing

What disappointed you about Retribution?

I have loved all of Sherilyn's books, but this one missed the mark. The lead woman kills a bunch of dark-hunters, is a total bad-ass, and then turns into a whiny little helpless girl when Sundown comes along? I want my ladies to have more fight, even when they are wrong. She should have tried to kill him more often and with more success. She should have left him hating himself for wanting her instead of her climbing into his lap with barely a whimper. This made this book too boring and sappy to finish.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I will have to wait for the next book to see if it is better.

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

I usuall like Mr. Graham, but not even he could save this book.

What character would you cut from Retribution?

I want fond of any of them. No spine or grit.

Hard listen

While her books are always good, this one was so hard to keep going on. Super slow moving, couldn’t connect to the characters, and just not normal DH style. Glad in didn’t give up because the bonus chapter at the end made the book worth it.

Too Short

I love the Dark Hunter series, but I was disappointed with this book. I felt the story was too similar of structure to the other books. Not to mention there was only one love scene and the end was wrapped up way too quickly. It felt like Kenyon had quit and wanted to finish the book in one paragraph. However, I LOVED the bonus part with Acheron and his new baby. Thank you very much for that. I was so excited and happy to be able to know how that turned out. Still- I will be looking for the next book.

Love Holter Graham......BUT........

What did you like best about Retribution? What did you like least?

Love Jess from Dance with the Devil, and glad to see him get a story, but I'm very confused...I downloaded this book the day it came out, and listened to it many times, as it was so very different from the other DH books, with the native American theme and all.....
Then, in anticipation of the upcoming "Time Untime" I listened to it again this week, and it was different ...I mean, the end was different.... Much more detail, and I am VERY confused....

What didn’t you like about Holter Graham’s performance?

He really has no range.... All his characters sound "American" despite the discriptions of their ethnic backgrounds....While, in comparison to Maggie meg reed, carrington macduffie, and (shudder) William Dupree, he's the lessor of all evils, he can't seem to remember that he's done these books before, and doesn't carry through with his characters.... The main discrepancy being Nick, but there are many more....Sin, Zarek, Dev, etc.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably, out of morbid curiosity

Full of unnecessary repetition

I started out totally in love with this series.... and then I realized that the novels are 50% unnecessary filler.
"He had never felt", "never had he heard", "never had anyone", "she had never been", "he had never been", "never had she seen", "nothing had ever smelled", "nobody had ever",.... and on and on and on the filler goes. You would think that an editor would have mentioned how annoying this repetitive bullshit is. The books would be so much better if she cut that unnecessary crap out. It seems like she does it to meet a minimum page requirement, to the detriment of her novels. With every novel you listen to it becomes more irritating, to the point it is hard to enjoy the actual STORY.
NEVER have I ever been so annoyed with an author. NEVER have I been so disappointed in a series that had such potential!

The ENTIRE "Dark Hunter" series would be a million times better if it was narrated by Robert Petkoff..... Audible, PLEASE do us a favor and have R.P. re- record this series!!!
If you are serious fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon do yourself a huge favor and listen to the "After Dark Immortals" by Kresley Cole, you'll thank me later!

I was left disappointed! Bonus chapter GREAT!!!!!!

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon, but felt the book needed to be longer and more detailed etc. I think more information needed to be added to explain the stoy and build a greater love affair. However the bonus chapter made the rest of the book worth the purchase, so glad to had more of Tory and Ash. The narrator as always was great.

Not as strong as the others in the series

I love this series and it is a must buy for me. This one felt off to me- like it didn't belong in this series. Since I love all the others I will trust and move along to the next one.
