Publisher's summary

Hidden deep beneath Manhattan lies a warren of tunnels, sewers, and galleries, mostly forgotten by those who walk the streets above. There lies the ultimate secret of the Museum Beast.

When two grotesquely deformed skeletons are found deep in the mud off the Manhattan shoreline, museum curator Margo Green is called in to aid the investigation. Margo must once again team up with police lieutenant D'Agosta and FBI agent Pendergast, as well as the brilliant Dr. Frock, to try and solve the puzzle. The trail soon leads deep underground, where they will face the awakening of a slumbering nightmare.

Prolong the suspense: listen to the first book, Relic.

Critic reviews

The netherworld of New York City...proves as shuddery a setting for the authors' latest scientific monster mash as the American Museum of Natural History did for their bestselling Relic, to which this is the sequel. ( Publishers Weekly)
"This should do for the New York subway system what Jaws did for Long Island beaches." ( Booklist)
"Dick Hill's reading of this fascinating sequel to Relic builds the suspense and horror." ( AudioFile)

Reliquary

I absolutely love the Pendergast series. He is one of my favorite characters from all the books I've ever read. I wasn't terribly impressed with the narrator because he made Smithback sound too whiny and Margo was so bland as a character. I've always thought of her as a soft spoken but strong female character. Laura Hayward was excellently done as was D'Agosta.

Overall, this wasn't my favorite narration but it was adequate. I will definitely get the next book in the Pendergast series as soon as I have a credit available. Audibles is definitely something I love on these 10-12 hour drives I take every couple of weeks.

Stil so good even after 26 years

Brings back haply memories of reading my 1st edition hardbacks, still happily shelved and covered. Really wish we could have had some standalone Smithback tales but alas he has been "dead" for tears now.
Always have to go back and get to the beginning of my favorite characters from time to time.

The hair on the back of my neck!

The development of characters throughout the story held me glued waiting to hear obstacles, moreover, death threats of various kinds, around every turn of the story.

Oldie but a goodie

I’m a fan of the Pendergast series, and this is no exception. A good conclusion to the museum beast murders! Well acted & engaging to listen to.

Worst Book of the Series

I wasn't expecting Dick Hill and it really dampened the mood for me after listening to the other books in the series. Maybe if they could re-audio with Rene Auberjonois it would make a difference.

Kind of out there.

Would you recommend Reliquary to your friends? Why or why not?

I probably wouldn't the story line is a little farfetched from reality. It's not bad, but it's just really out there. Borderlines on science fiction, which is not what I understood Pendergast novels to be.

Another winner

Love these Pendergast books if you listed to Relic then you need to listen to this one too is a continuation of the Relic story. Only problem I have is this reader mispronounce certain characters names.
