Publisher's summary

Val Darrant was just four years old the snowy night his mother abandoned him. But instead of meeting a lonely death, he met Will Reilly - a gentleman, a gambler, and a worldly, self-taught scholar. For 10 years they each were all the family the other had, traveling from dusty American boomtowns to the glittering cities of Belle Époque Europe - until the day Reilly’s luck ran out in a roar of gunfire.

But it wasn’t a gambling brawl or a pack of thieves that sealed Will’s fate. It was a far more complex story that Val would soon uncover - one that would bring him face-to-face with the one person he least wants to see: his mother. With the help of a beautiful, street-smart rancher and the woman who was Will Reilly’s lost love, Val must close this last cruel chapter of his past before he can turn the page on an uncertain future.

A Real Joy

This story of a small boy rescued, raised, and formed in character by a gambler--who himself presents a splendid and engaging hero--is Louis L'Amour at his best. A fine moral and complicated plot, in which both Will Reilly and the young boy who becomes a man, proceeds with action, tension, betrayal, empathy, and heart. Great narration. Really just loved it all.

So good!

I have listened to dozens of Louis l’Amour books. This story is absolutely one of the best. Bo Bridges does a wonderful job narrating.

Another excellent book by Mr L’Amour.

Just another classic with his usual pacing, action and representation of America in its best times.

I’m sorry

Reilly’s Luck is probably my all time favorite Louis L’amour novel. Beau Bridges is one of my favorite actors. Unfortunately I personally find Mr Bridge’s performance reading this novel painful. To my surprise Mr Bridges doesn’t seem to have the vocal ability to portray any character in anything other than a gravelly voice. For female characters a high pitched gravelly voice. I’m sorry. It’s just not the best production.

Another Great Read By Louis L'Amour

This is a touching story about a man alone who raises a boy nobody wants, and taught him to be a man. An honest gambler, he and the boy travel in many countries, but it's the west they love.

The narrator gave a good performance.

A must read for L'Amour fans, or great as a first read for those unfamiliar with his stories.

Narrator is a big disappointment

This book could have been a great listen and still don't know if I will finish it. I am embarrassed for a former actor whose voice is the same whether it be a 4-year-old, 40 year old, gunslinger, or madame!

I'm sure this is a wonderful interesting book by one of the greatest writers of all time and I'm sorry it was wasted by someone who just couldn't give it it's due diligence, interest, and artistic capabilities!
