Publisher's summary

When Kate, single mother and law firm partner, gets an urgent phone call summoning her to her daughter's exclusive private school, she's shocked. Amelia has been suspended for cheating, something that would be completely out of character for her over-achieving, well-behaved daughter.

Kate rushes to Grace Hall, but what she finds when she finally arrives is beyond comprehension. Her daughter is dead.

Despondent over having been caught cheating, Amelia has jumped from the school's roof in an act of impulsive suicide. At least that's the story Grace Hall and the police tell Kate. In a state of shock and overcome by grief, Kate tries to come to grips with this life-shattering news. Then she gets an anonymous text: Amelia didn't jump.

The moment she sees that message, Kate knows in her heart it's true. Clearly Amelia had secrets, and a life Kate knew nothing about. Wracked by guilt, Kate is determined to find out what those secrets were and who could have hated her daughter enough to kill. She searches through Amelia's emails, texts, and Facebook updates, piecing together the last troubled days of her daughter's life.

Reconstructing Amelia is a stunning debut pause-resistor that brilliantly explores the secret world of teenagers, their clandestine first loves, hidden friendships, and the dangerous cruelty that can spill over into acts of terrible betrayal.

Amazing!!!

This book is one of the best I have listened to. I couldn't stop listening to it. I loved how the storyline was set up. Some parts gave me chills. Showed the reality of bullying and the difficulties of dealing with tough issues as a young adolescent.
I would recommend this book for sure !

Couldn't stop

I loved this book. I couldn't stop listening. Every minute I had I put my headphones in and listened. I feel like it's always a good thing when you feel sad when books are over. That's exactly how I felt. I loved the narrator. Khristine Hvam's voice wasn't annoying, perfectly pitched and pleasant. This is my first audiobook by this author and I hope the others are just as wonderful as this one. I definitely recommend.

Parents, you can learn from this story

Would you listen to Reconstructing Amelia again? Why?

A novel that could be a 101 lesson for teenages' parents. A lot of reality in this "fiction" story. Facebook, text messages, high school clubs, sex, gossips, homeworks, peer pressure, suicide, internet access, and more features that surround kids lives everyday are reflected in this story. I took away a lot from this book.

Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?

Great narrator. I love her reading and entonation.

Who was the most memorable character of Reconstructing Amelia and why?

As a teenage' parent and a professional, I can see myself as Kate.

Any additional comments?

Some parts of the book reflect younger kids' language, but it is not a barrier to understant the whole story.

I recommend this author and have really enjoyed her books I am a first time reader of her books but will be reading more

I really liked the book except for all the swear words. There were far to many! I realize young people use the F word but I think this was a bit much!

Great performance

Khristine Hvam did a killer job with this. The story really had me until 3/4 way. I was engrossed. Then it just kind of fell flat. It was a whole bunch of little things having nothing to do with anything really. Some character development issues and random things that didn't make sense.

Great story, until the end

This book was riveting, a real page turner. I was very interested in all the characters and learning how each mystery played out. But the end was unfulfilling. There were a lot of possible endings and the one the author chose just seemed flat and not worthy of the build up to it. The narrator of this is amazing and I really enjoyed listening.

Enjoyed story and narrator

I really enjoyed the story and found it hard to put down. I was excited to get in my car so that I could listen. Narrators are very important to me and they can ruin an entire book. I found this narration easy to listen to and that made the book even better.
