Take one aspiring cook, one judge, and a spoonful of romance...When Zoe Harper wins a coveted place in a televised cookery competition she's thrilled. It's a chance to cook her way to fame and fortune and the little delicatessen she's set her heart on. The first task has hardly begun when she finds herself with rather too much on her plate. Not only has she got to contend with the fiercely competitive and downright devious Cher, but she's fast developing an inconvenient crush on one of the judges - the truly delicious Gideon Irving.
All too soon there's more than canapés, cupcakes and cordon bleu at stake. Will Zoe win the competition or is Gideon one temptation too far? And is Zoe really prepared to risk it all for love?

Voice of reader and story itself.
Made the characters come to life.
No, just thoroughly enjoyed it.
I love Katie Fforde and this is my favourite book by her to date.
The story's strength is dialogue and ridiculous, funny situations, not clever plot and suspense. The characters are human, well distinguishable and believable. They are not mean, saints in disguise or boring gray non-entities.
The story is "compact" in that it doesn't have complicated side plots and doesn't verbosely narrate scenes to the bitter boring end ... but sometimes it is a bit too compact and sketchy .. as though the author felt she had more to say, but the need for minimalism tied her tongue.
As in a Jane Austin romances you will know early on who the lucky couple is. Not a problem since "Getting There" is what it's about.
The reader is no Kate Reading, but she works for the story and didn't distract me anymore after a short while.
"Another perfect Fforde..."
As ever, Katie Fforde gives us another cheery, polite romance! I am a huge fan of hers, the only negative thing I can say about this is that it is so obvious she was watching the bake off and masterchef whilst writing! But a perfect, summer read, and read beautifully by Jenny Funnell.
"Warm and comforting reading"
This is great for listening to if you're feeling a bit down as it's bright, cheerful and lovely! The story is a bit predictable but in a good way - the heroine is easily warmed to as she's very personable and the other characters are all very well written too. It does make you feel hungry though, my tummy was rumbling at the descriptions of the food being cooked. And it definitely increased my need to make cake!
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. The story is great and I loved the characters as well as all the descriptions of food. Also the narrator does it very well and is not annoying like so many are. It's the perfect voice for the book.
really enjoyed this story of zoe a contestant in a cooking contest
it. had all the elements of a good story, zoe likeable main character, cher as the opposite and Gideon the romantic interest.
recommend as a light read/listen.
"Wow! Really enjoyed it😊"
Romantic, capturing @ whole time. Great story and very well read. I am a big fan of Katie Fforde😊
Some incidents of humour and pathos which held the story together. The setting not the usual Gloucestershire but just over the border so Katie can be forgiven. I liked the way the recipes were touched upon, without dominating the story, but rather enhanced the characters personalities. A good audio book to listen to when on a summer holiday.
"Good fun with a modern twist"
Probably - lots going on, not always true to life but close enough to help imagine it occurring
Other Katie Ffords
Not moving per se, but the wet mattress scene sticks in my mind!
"Light and breezy like whipped cream"
Having listened to some meatier books, I enjoyed this novel for its' simple delicate charm. I cared about the characters, booed in the right places, enjoyed the plot and was entertained. Zoe's character was good fun & Gideon wasn't your average 'shiny' man. He had depth and rough edges that made him believable. Katie Fford's offering to me was like a light meringue with whipped cream, sweet but not too sickly and refreshing if served between two heavier courses (I am seeing visions of steak and a cheese platter). I shall stop now before you are assaulted by more food analogies! If you like Fford, you'll enjoy this delicious escapism!
"Good characters! Very light."
Not my favourite of Katie Fforde's books, but I do like her writing. A good old story without all the bad language just a good bit of storytelling I have recommended this to my friends not too predicable but enjoyable lightweight fiction.
