Publisher's summary

This standalone novel is another fine example of the wonderful, zany humor of P. G. Wodehouse.

Imperious American widow Beatrice Chavender is visiting her sister's country home near London when a most unfortunate thing happens: She takes a bite of inferior ham while having her breakfast. Soon everyone around her is suffering the consequences - her sister, her brother-in-law, the butler, poor Sally, Sally's fiancé, and even Mrs. Chavender's ex-fiancé, "Ham King" J. B. Duff.

Don't miss this wild romp from the acknowledged master of British humor.

Witty and quick paced

Great voice characterizations! The fast paced story is full of interesting subjects. It was easy to sink in and get to know them. I found myself forgetting that only one person was narrating.

"What Ho!!"

A fun read - and English grammar lesson. 😊 I always enjoy the so properly narrated 'slapstick' and often see A Bit of Laurie and Fry in my mind's eye when the action gets a bit fruity... Very well. That is all.

Hilarious!

I kept pausing and going back to play chunks ofthe story to my husband and son. They will eventually get used to hearing apparently random laughter while I'm listening. Vance does a terrific job narrating, making sure to pretty much deadpan all the funny bits so you get them for yourself, and Wodehouse is just as funny here as with Bertie and Jeeves!

One of the best by P. G Wodehouse.

The author is at his best here. I found myself laughing out loud well listening to this book. The narration is fantastic.

Delightful

Typical Wodehousian shenanigans. Thoroughly enjoyed it, though the other reviewers are correct; the narrator’s American accents, especially in the “women’s” voices, aren’t quite right.

Perfect Narration, Great Wodehouse As Always

Light, quick witted Wodehouse story - per usual - makes this an enjoyable listen. Great narrator whose voice conveys the exact tenor and tone we like to think of in PG W stories!

Dry humor at it's best

If you remember that once upon a time, we could laugh at one another without being "canceled", and know the difference between tounge-in-cheek and meanness, then this a delightful way to spend a few hours. And for once, no one confused the word SECRET-ED (to hide something) and SECRETE-ED (to emit/secrete a substance) which has happened in about 15 Audible recordings and counting. it was funny the first time, i.e. " Annabel SECRETE-D (emphasis on the second syllable as in *to emit or discharge*) the book in her pocket ", when it should have been read as SECRET-ED, as in *to hide*. But now it's ubiquitous and just annoys me constantly, ruining the moment and he story when I have to yell at the narrator. I'll keep mentioning it in all my reviews, but I fear the damage is done.

Light hearted romp with lots of chuckles in the actions and snappyily written dialogue! Well performed, too.

Such fun!

Fun story and great use of voices but Mr Vance. Didn’t miss Wooster and Jeeves at all.

Totally entertaining!

This book is like a jolly romp where everything gets all entangled and sorts itself out at the end. Wonderful funny characters; excellent narration by Simon Vance.
