Versatile Aussie actor Alan King dishes out four diverse and delectable short tales. These stories cover an eclectic mix of genres, but all offer action-packed adventure, sure to capture the ears of eight- to twelve-year-olds. In "The Lighthouse Secret", two schoolmates discover some unusual experiments taking place at Cameron’s Cove. Following, "The Giant Scrub Python" trails two boys on their mission to end an illegal animal trading operation. Next up is "Uncorked", Archimede Fusillo’s humorous account of bullying and friendship. The proceedings close with "Jack and the Skyhook" - a sci-fi send up of "Jack and the Beanstalk" - featuring a space cadet who trades his cow for a few beans. King is rangy, animated, and emotive as he serves up snappy dialogue exchanges and quick-clipped action sequences.
Jack and the Aliens by Damien Broderick - Jack, an interstellar cadet, is stranded on an alien planet with Chipster his computerised spacesuit. Will the rescue craft arrive in time to save him?
Intergalactic Heroes by James Moloney - "This is my last warning," said Radnor..."You have thirty seconds to decide the future of your species." Can Joe save the Earth?
Clever Sandwiches by Rowena Cory Lindquist - Yuck. "Listen to me, Mouse. You didn't see us. Got it?" Will the clever sandwiches stop Derek's never-ending teasing?
