Publisher's summary

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem.

As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton - and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers - and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Can she vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry?

Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to hear.

This Heirloom Edition of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies includes a new preface by the author, an afterword by Dr. Allen Grove, professor of English literature at Alfred University, and new scenes of gratuitous zombie mayhem.

Critic reviews

"[Seth Grahame-Smith] has taken the merry world established by a 19th-century literary lady, added a scourge of reanimated corpses, and created...well, a pop cultural phenomenon, certainly, and one that has stirred up a lot of excitement. But the greater achievement of the book may lie in the satisfying desire it awakens to read the remix and the original side by side." ( Entertainment Weekly)

Great story and great reader

I chooses to here this book because I loved Pride and Prejudice and after herring a little about the book I decided to give it a try even though I don't like zombies what so ever and avoid them when ever I can but this book was really great. I'm glad it didn't have to much description of the zombies and the parts it did describe I just ignored. I'm very impressed on how they incorporated the zombies in the book with out changing the story to much and was still a really good book. I also love the way the reader read this book and will definitely be listening to this book more than once. 😆😊

My Two favorite past times combined!!!

Love...Love...Loved how they intricately weaved in the zombie apocalypse into Elizabeth and Darcy's world! Just as in the original, Lizzy is not a stand by kind of gal and in this version she's a warrior!

Kind of funny . . . for awhile

This felt a little trite after awhile--like a prank that's cute, but not THAT cute--that keeps going on and on. The narration is excellent, and the idea is creative. I just found that it wasn't creative enough for six hours. I really dig zombie stuff for some reason, and Jane Austin, so I was looking forward to finally listening to this book. What I found, though, was that I'd read the book, exactly, aside from the zombie stuff thrown in, which wasn't very extensive. There's so much ninja stuff in this that they could have added ". . . and Ninjas" to the title, too. If you're really curious about it, it's worth listening to know, but you pretty much get it from the title.

Finally a Pride and Prejudice men can enjoy

Would you consider the audio edition of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed them both, but yes, the proper engllish voice of the narrator made it even funnier

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lizzy, who else?

Any additional comments?

Just amazing, i enjoyed the juxtaposition of gore and killing with the elegant narration.

Wonderful. I want to listen to it again already.

I have loved the original Pride and Prejudice since I first read it in high school. I must say, though I love the original, I am a fan of this sequence of events. This reading is perfect, the narrator has the perfect balance to manage both the high-society and zombie battle aspects of the story without sounding awkward.

very fun listen

Very fun premise to the story and great narration. I was surprised at how true to the original story this version stayed, while adding in a layer of zombies versus the deadly arts. Loved it. I think I got much more out of hearing the audio version than I would have by reading the print version.

A fun adaptation

I really enjoyed the original and thought that this was an interesting twist to the story. A good listen thought a bit strange at times!

Loved it!

I can't explain how much I enjoyed this book! I have always loved Pride & Prejudice, so couldn't resist downloading this to see "what he did to it".

It is hilarious, interesting, and - real! The original story is still there, and the addition of the zombies (and necessary changes) just add some fun!

I highly recommend this to anyone who appreciates the classics - but likes a twist!
