Publisher's summary

In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive.

It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour.

Every attempt to destroy it has failed.

And we are the prey.

As fresh as today's headlines, Michael Crichton's most compelling novel yet tells the story of a mechanical plague and the desperate efforts of a handful of scientists to stop it. Drawing on up-to-the-minute scientific fact, Prey takes us into the emerging realms of nanotechnology and artificial distributed intelligence in a story of breathtaking suspense.

Prey is a novel you can't pause.

Because time is running out.

Critic reviews

"Crichton is the master of the sci-tech thriller, and nowhere is that more evident than in his latest page-turner, a scary, wild ride that is, without a doubt, his best in years." (Booklist)

"From the opening pages of Crichton's electrifying new thriller...readers will know they are in the hands of a master storyteller." (Publishers Weekly)

Great

One of the best stories I've listened to recently, written before nano technology so wide spread but great read

Loved the science!!

I read this book maybe 20 years ago and I remember it fondly. That being said, the main character was one of the stupidest smart person ever written about. I wanted to scream at the MC to shut up and run. There was so much inner turmoil when it should have been "Oh, I'm about to be eaten!"

So Michael Crichton got me invested in these characters but I wanted to strangle them. Hence, I gave 4 out of 5 stars. The explanations of the technology in the book were fascinating but a bit over my head. The foreword was delightful. I highly recommend this story despite the narrator swallowing A LOT. Just make sure you bring your patience.

Not One of His Better Books

Okay, we get it. Ill-considered runaway technology is bad. All in all, it’s a good enough story about a good enough guy. It’s a little transparent but falls short of preachy.

Prey

I have listened to this book several times. it is a very interesting and four-sided but that I enjoy on both in the entertainment level and a Syfy. I suppose some form of this might actually happen in the future dealing with nanotechnology.

Prey

If you like Crichton, you will like this too. I liked it but not his best work. But I would still recomend it.

Classic Crichton

Would you consider the audio edition of Prey to be better than the print version?

Never read the print version so????

What other book might you compare Prey to and why?

None, Crichton stands alone and above.

Which scene was your favorite?

Well the climax, of course, no teasers

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Run, if you can

Any additional comments?

I love Crichton, so im biased, he's the best and no equals
