Publisher's summary

Back in college, Jane Lewis would have given anything to be like homecoming queen Connie Bryan. Instead she was just Plain Jane - overweight, frumpy, and painfully shy. That was then. Today, a lovely and confident Dr. Jane Lewis has a thriving psychotherapy practice, her own radio talk show, a beautiful old Louisiana mansion, and her affectionate, nutty dog, Olive, to keep her company. The only thing missing is someone to share her life.

Jane has never forgotten Michael Sorenson, the boy she'd admired from afar in college. Now he's inspiring her to hope for a future together. She's also never forgotten the brutal, unsolved attack that ended Connie Bryan's life - and haunts Jane still. Suddenly the present collides with the past as she finds clues into the identities of Connie's attackers - clues that send her into a world of risk and excitement, challenging her to become a truly extraordinary woman...if she dares.

Nice

It was a different pace but nice. Kept listening to see what happens at the end!

Great book, great narrator.

I use to really enjoy Fern Michael's books but haven't Read / listen to one in years. Not sure why but I'm glad I found her again. I really enjoyed this book. Someone said when they found out there was a ghost in the story they thought it would be scary so they stopped listening and returned the book. Believe me it wasn't scary at all. There is a teenage ghost character but he's a miner character and nothing about him or his story is scary.. It's to bad the other listener didn't continue listening they missed a good story. You'll enjoy it too.

Great performance, interesting story

The story was different but seemed to head in different directions which did not really develop. Main character was likable mostly but then would react in an extreme petty way.

Takes some pretty weird turns

I listened to this whole book. I found myself wanting/needing to know what happens. At times i found the main character insufferable and to be extremely selfish. Parts of the book you’ll find yourself looking down and being like wait am I listening to the same story? Overall - good read just be prepared for some randomness.

Didn’t care for it

Did care for the way Jane acted towards Mike. No man would have stayed with the way treated him

Nice story

Twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Good to get the bars guys to confess and pay the consequences.
Lots of happiness too

Cheesy but enjoyable

A lot of reviews are, in my opinion, overly harsh. Maybe the book just didn’t age well for some - it’s been 20 years since it’s first publication and a lot has happened since then! But the love story was cute, the characters cheesy but interesting, the events were a little unnerving and the whole thing kept me listening (and looking for opportunities to listen).

Strange dialogue…herky jerky

Saw several reviews negative about the ghosts. That wasn’t as hard to listen to as the diarrhea of the mouth dialogue. Seriously, you had a psychologist ask so many questions without a pause? And non sequitur questions & answers. The entire book felt contrived and forced. No southerner pronounces “New Orleans” the way the narrator did.

Mixed genre book - enjoyed it very much

Enjoyable with frustrating sections, tears of happiness, some paranormal, some romance, some mystery…a book of all genres.
