    "Awesome revenge"
What made the experience of listening to Petals on the Wind the most enjoyable?

Audible format takes these books and makes them more enjoyable. Books don't have tones or attitudes in them like a book being read. You feel a real connect to the situation they are living. You get a better understanding of how and why they do the things they do. You can feel how their relationships really are.

What other book might you compare Petals on the Wind to and why?

Anything that V.C. Andrews wrote her self.

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. Although she does a great job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me cry several times. It tears your heart out. You feel their pain.

    Any additional comments?

Again I would love it, if they continued to convert her older books to Audible format.

    "Still breaks my heart..."
If you could sum up Petals on the Wind in three words, what would they be?

    revenge, greed, sadness...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cathy of course....its her story....but all the characters are noteworthy...

Which character – as performed by Alyssa Bresnahan – was your favorite?

I like them all...and sometimes hate them all too...

If you could take any character from Petals on the Wind out to dinner, who would it be and why?

This is a strange question... Considering the book, it is hard to choose....

    Any additional comments?

I wish Audible had the rest of this series...I think many people should hear this story, and count there blessings everyday...

    "So Bad it's Good?"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Well-spent? Hmm....I'm sure I'd be a better person if I had read something more "wholesome" ha ha.

Would you ever listen to anything by V. C. Andrews again?

I'd love to hear the rest of the series if they got the same narrator. And My Sweet Audrina, which is the craziest, most f***ed up of all her books.

What does Alyssa Bresnahan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her narration is what made this audible book great. Cause the book itself is pretty bad. But somehow she made the melodrama and flowery purple prose deliciously entertaining.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Nah.

    Any additional comments?

I cannot believe my friends and I read all of these books in junior high. Our mothers obviously had no idea what they were about!

I enjoyed this book like I enjoy eating a whole bag of Doritos. It was good in the moment, but afterwards left me feeling ashamed and a little nauseated.

"loved it, I wish audible had the 3rd book."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I didn't want it to end. I wish Audible had the third book. "If There Be Thorns. "
Read book one first and book two will be more engaging. Love the narrator too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kathy of course but they are all well established.

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes in Flowers in the attic.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The final revenge was worth waiting for.

"It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!!!"
What did you love best about Petals on the Wind?

I read the book several years ago, but I love the fact that I can experience it again and refresh my memory through Audible. Whoever thought of "Audible" is a genius in my book.

What did you like best about this story?

    That it's dark and sinister.

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time that I have listened to this Author. Good Job!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Everyday that I drive home in traffic (42 miles one way), listening to the book makes the drive in traffic not seem so long.

"Narrator excellent, but poor recording quality"

Upon to recent release of a Flowers in the Attic remake, my interest was again sparked in the Dollanganger series, which I had read many, many years ago as a teenager. This book, second in the Flowers in the Attic series, spans the 15 years after the children escape from that dreaded attic, but connects the tale with vivid imagery and shocking plot twists. The narrator's soothing, almost sultry, voice and tone suit the story that serves as the voice for Catherine Dollanganger/ Foxworth/ Sheffield, told from her perspective. However, there are many odd breaks and strange pauses in the recording, allowing the listener to break their concentration and question subtext before starting back up again. This is due to an older recording and a poor recording at that. However, this is still one great listen!

Growing up in England, surrounded by amazing literature, I was devastated when my eyesight made reading difficult. Audible is truly a gift.

    Story
    "Terrible Ending..."
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book was not time well spent. It could have had a much more satisfying middle and ending. V.C. Andrews seemed to lose her train of thought and began taking the reader from one direction to another, culminating it a troubling ending...

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have either given Kathy rich, satisfying vengeance or made peace and given the characters a happy ending.

    Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Kathy and Chris found out that it was their mother who was trying to kill them with the poisoned donuts.

Was Petals on the Wind worth the listening time?

    No...

    Story
"Good book but sad. Read with caution"
Where does Petals on the Wind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not my favorite but not my least favorite either

Would you be willing to try another book from V. C. Andrews? Why or why not?

Not if they're as sad as this one.

What does Alyssa Bresnahan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Personable characters,

If you could take any character from Petals on the Wind out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Paul because he seems to be the most sincere character.

    Any additional comments?

This is a very well written story with complex situations and dynamic characters. However, the sad parts of the story significantly overwhelm the happy moments. So much so that, if you're like me and get wrapped up in novels, you may feel emotionally drained by the time you get to the end. I just finished this book today and thinking back on it as I write this review, all that comes to mind is how heartbreaking the majority of this story was. Unlike its prequil Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind does not have a hopeful ending which is unfortunate since there is so much turmoil and woe for multiple characters in the body, it would have been nice if it could have at least ended on a high note. But if you're the type that can objectively read a book without feeling everything the characters feel than you'll probably really like this book.

"GREAT STORY AND PERFORMANCE! VERY CONVINCING!"
Where does Petals on the Wind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    One of my favorites!

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, Flowers in the Attic. She was an excellent narrator in both books. She was very convincing in her portrayal of the characters.

"Deep book, Freud would have loved it."

What a story! So many psycho-sexual overtones. Freud would have loved it! Strong characters, good story. Poor kids. Poor adults. Very cleverly written. Glad I gave it a listen. It made me stop and think about how revenge can be so scornful and never lead to anything good.
