Publisher's Summary

When Trey meets his new legal clients, the stunning Michel and his equally striking partner Gabriel, he can't believe his luck. The rumour in the office is that the pair can be difficult at times; they have a staggering number of assets to manage and are elusive during the daytime hours. Trey settles into his new Parisian home, making friends and meeting romantic interests, but none so fascinating as Michel and Gabriel.

There's something familiar about them, about their peculiarities, and Trey just can't shake the feeling that he's missing something important. They seem kind enough, if distant at times, and as Trey's life becomes more complicated, they appear to want to protect him. But what if they're the ones putting him in danger?

"10 hours lost - unless you use superspeed."

I selected this book because the premise was intriguing and I thought "10 hours - enough time to have an intricate plot" right? Wrong.

Listen to the sample and decide of you can stand 10 hours of that internal dialog - just like that. 10 hours of "OMG, OMG, OMG, he's so hot, he's so hot, he's so hot. She's beautiful. He's adorable. " Lots of drinking - scotch, wine, cognac. Some spending of money, and walking on Paris streets, sitting in cafes, seldom in anyone's home, mostly ogling the other characters. We have a travelogue of Paris streets.

There is very little sex - Trey isn't involved and it is understated.

SPOILER ALERT: The plot comes in tiny pieces and I can list them here in one paragraph. Trey is bi, his clients are m/m, hot, and strange. Everybody is rich. He makes two friends - a woman (she has a secret) in a cafe and the cafe waiter. Trey is hypoglycemic - faints occasionally - is this a plot point? Seemed to be evidence of contact with VAMPIRES - but no, it is a red herring. A mysterious stranger attacks him once, then again. He is rescued (guess who?) He gets a note to go to a strange place. And he GOES! Alone! Rescued again. Drama! Will he still be friends with the people he now knows are VAMPIRES and murder their own? YES! He will! THE END.

But there must be a sequel. We are left with several lose ends. The head vampire still has to go confront the Villain. Foreshadowing makes us fear he will NOT survive. Trey needs to travel to New Orleans to find out about his Voodoo grandfather (last plot point).

10 hours and it was all just the setup for the next book.

As for the voice actor. I give him 1 for the New York accent and 4 for the French accent. The New York accent is grating and since it is used most often and continuously for the internal babble it gets really difficult to listen to. When the voice actor is in French mode for the vampires, he is pleasant to listen to - not overdone at all. He seems to pronounce all the french place names correctly - I wouldn't know. (Challenge - Is it possible for a New York accent to be sexy?)

Would I read the sequel? Hard to say - maybe if it was free - and short.

Professional Madwoman, lulled to an acceptable level of social behavior only by the constant, continual, susurrants of the spoken word piped in my ears through the magic of small, discrete, wireless headphones. OK, maybe I do sometimes laugh in inappropriate situations, startle an unwitting audience by gasping at nothing, and elict stares when I drop expletives in a silent void, it's all good.

"I should have read reviews before purchasing."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The fact that I unknowingly bought a book featuring gay sex was not a negative, the fact that it was spoofishly junior high school girly was a total negative. A good looking, professional man working in Paris is NOT ALLOWED to be silly, gushing and girly about his love interest! I learned way too much about everyone's wardrobes than who they were. The book "How I Paid for College: a Novel of Sex,Theft, Friendship, and Musical Theater" by Mark Acito is a fabulous example of laugh out loud, five star work featuring gay issues. The Julliard scene is a classic!
The title "Paris Immortal" was nice.

What didn’t you like about Jay Benedict’s performance?

Sometimes I have to wonder if publishers have any standards when stuff like this is put to paper!

What character would you cut from Paris Immortal?

There was a 12 year old girl with the voice of a man reading this book!

    Any additional comments?

From now on, I WILL read the reviews, I WILL read the reviews, I Will read the reviews!

    Story
"Lots of lust not much plot"

High camp this novel is ideal for straight women and gay men since most of this story consists of descriptions of the gay attraction between the two main vampire characters and their bi-sexual male lawyer. Expect detailed descriptions of lustful longings, hard bodies, clothing and interior decor. A supposedly brilliant lawyer, it takes Trey almost to the end of the book to figure out that his clients are not human despite having amassed a vast fortune in business at the (human) age of 19 and not ever taking his calls during the day. The story is told from the thoughts of either Trey or the vampire, thought which are frequently banal and (I suspect from the tone) involve lots of the exclamations marks and italics in print i.e. oh god, oh god, oh god...etc The plot doesn't even start to move forward until half way through the book when the vampires are threatened by another vampire. Just when it gets interesting, the book ends.

I got through this only because I am a straight woman and like hearing descriptions of fit male bodies.

    "This book is marmite"

I listened to the book twice to ensure I had not lost consentration at certain points and missed critical pieces of information, but I had not. Narrator is annoying!!!! whilst I have nothing against same sex relationships I was not prepared for the constant flirtation between the 2 male main characters. I had intended to buy the next book but have decided against it now after further reflection
