The novel opens in present day Paris in a crowded café, where David meets Pandora. She is 2,000 years old, a child of the millennia, the first vampire ever made by the great Marius. David persuades her to tell the story of her life through the ages.
Pandora carries you back to her mortal girlhood in the world of Caesar Augustus, where she meets and falls in love with the handsome, charismatic, lighthearted, still-mortal Marius. She is forced to flee in fear of assassination by conspirators plotting to take over the city. You then follow her to the exotic port of Antioch, where she is destined to be reunited with Marius, now immortal and haunted by his vampire nature, who will bestow on her the Dark Gift as they set out on the fraught and fantastic adventure of their two turbulent centuries together.

Say something about yourself!
This is a wonderful tale that brings you through the 'life' of Pandora. Anne Rice has given us a series of tales from Pandora's life that is written with insight, drama, and emotion. It fills in some more history of the Vampires that continually brings her world depth and interest.
The Reader was exceptional. So pleasant to listen to. She added life and spirit to this tale of the 'undead'.
I was sorry that her story had to end so...on to Armand.
I Loved It!
I Love reading books, My Job makes that difficult, so Audio Books have re-opened the Universe to my Soaring Imagination!
I have always loved Anne Rice, but could never get through here heavy details. Kate Reading did such an awesome job of capturing Pandora's attitude, and personality, the few times i did feel bogged down with detail, Kate, used Pandora's attitude to bring excitement to it.
Great job. Going for the next book now.
In my top 20
When she was out smarting her evil brother who sold out her family to the praetorian guard.
It wasn't one particular scene between Pandora and her father, but what woman isn't moved by a girl who loves and is deeply loved by a wonderful father. The "wedding night" of Pandora and Marius, and who couldn't adore Flavius... I mean he was kind of her Gay Boyfriend...
This is a wonderful who's who in the Vampire world of Anne Rice! I DREAM that she'd go back to it!
ANNE GIVE UP THE WOLF AND GO BACK TO THE VAMPIRE.... Plus I'd really like to find out what happened to Louis!
I loved how strong Anne Rice made Pandora. She's by far the strongest female character, she's got whit and intelligance.
Her performance was great. She wasn't a dry listen
I've read this book atleast 6 times scense high school. Love it
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
Pandora was my fist read ever on Audible and i loved it. Got more Anne Rice Books now.
It might be a good book but I cant get past the poor sound quality. There is a hissing sound in the back ground every time the narrator speaks.
I also have the abridged version and there is no such issue with the sound quality but the abridgment cuts out too many details that make Anne Rice books so enjoyable.
being a fan of the original Vampire chronicles I picked up Pandora. which begins the new vampire Tales. David Talbot Once Lestat's Mortal friend, now fledgling Vampire thanks to the events of "Tales Of The Body Thief". David takes it upon his self to chronicle their lives. Finding Pandora In Modern day Paris David asks her her Tale.
Pandora amused and curious by David's request agrees and we are drawn into a tale of a young Pandora in ancient Rome where Pandora a young senators daughter who encounters the still mortal legendary Marius and we are drawn into a tale of Betrayal Loss and Love as Pandora eventually falls into life of the vampire. The Narrator does an excellent job of showing Pandora's changing emotions as she goes through her trials and tribulations as she has to adapt to the changing environment around her and within herself. Pandora eventually evolves from an headstrong girl to strong of will intellegent woman. and excellent choice.
I've loved reading and writing for as far back as I can remember. I live in Ontario, Canada with my dear dog Joram (Maltese).
Before purchasing this one I was a bit hesitant...let me explain. For years I'd wanted to read Pandora, I wanted so much to hear about her life, experiences, etc. However when reading the description I felt that it was showing that the book was only going to cover her time with Marius which is only a fraction of her life, she is approximately 2000 yrs old. I had gotten to the point where I felt I needed to find out what Pandora had to say. So I bought it.
My suspicion proved correct. The book only covered her time with Marius. I was so happy to be hearing historically things which I'd never learnt about...I am absolutely obsessed with history and love to soak in all forms historical. So, in that vein the book truly satisfied me, up to a point...I wish that this book(or perhaps a sequel, or an addition to the series)would cover the years that were not covered here.
It was a joy to find out exactly what it was like for Pandora and Marius to be together from Pandora's perspective. There was so much attention to detail. (though I wish we could have found out what happened to Flavius after he left Marius and Pandora) I enjoyed the story so much that I would have given it 5 stars if the huge gap left out of her story had been touched on. This "gap" bothered me so much that I had to go with 4 stars. But I have to say it is a great book! I will be listening to it again, for what is there of Pandora's story is such an intense and wonderful experience that I definitely need to experience it again.
With that said I need to send out this prayer "Anne Rice please give us a really long book!!!"
I am a lover of epics I must say.
Kate Reading was awesome with the narration. Due to her accent there were a few instances where I had to concentrate on what word I was hearing (I hope you understand what I mean) but these were a few instances, I'd say no more than 5 throughout the whole book. I must mention that I'm not good with understanding accents, so I believe in this case it was my failing, thus I did give 5 stars for performance as it was indeed a good narration.
In case you haven't caught it I very much recommend this book! It was more than well worth the time and the credit used!
