Publisher's summary

Scott Sigler's Infected shocked listeners with a visceral, up-close account of physical metamorphosis and one man's desperate fight for sanity and survival, as "Scary" Perry Dawsey suffered the impact of an alien pathogen's early attempts at mass extinction. In the sequel Contagious, Sigler pulled back the camera and let the listener experience the frantic national response to this growing cataclysm.

And now in Pandemic, the entire human race balances on the razor's edge of annihilation, beset by an enemy that turns our own bodies against us, that changes normal people into psychopaths or transforms them into nightmares.

To some, Doctor Margaret Montoya is a hero-a brilliant scientist who saved the human race from an alien intelligence determined to exterminate all of humanity. To others, she's a monster - a mass murderer single-handedly responsible for the worst atrocity ever to take place on American soil.

All Margaret knows is that she's broken. The blood of a million deaths is on her hands. Guilt and nightmares have turned her into a shut-in, too mired in self-hatred even to salvage her marriage, let alone be the warrior she once was.

But she is about to be called into action again. Because before the murderous intelligence was destroyed, it launched one last payload - a soda can-sized container filled with deadly microorganisms that make humans feed upon their own kind.

That harmless-looking container has languished a thousand feet below the surface of Lake Michigan, undisturbed and impotent...until now.

Part Cthulhu epic, part zombie apocalypse and part blockbuster alien-invasion tale, Pandemic completes the Infected trilogy and sets a new high-water mark in the world of horror fiction.

Scott Sigler is the best!

of course, he doesn't narrate this one... and that needs some explaining. not sure why, but I do know how it sounds. he had Phil Gigante step in for this one and for as much as Scott's smooth voice is akin to the sound of fresh blood splatter being rubbed into a cleanly shaven face, Phil has a voice as thick as 80s porn bush. nothing is lost on this transition of narration though. and the story is still effin great!

Loved it! Enjoyed this as much as the first two.

it was different hearing this read by someone other that Scott, but I still enjoyed the ending of this awesome tale. I believe this would make one hell of a movie!

Great for those long drives!

While some areas of the story were a bit silly, the book is entertaining for those very long road trips or other travels. Took us two, long road trips about 13 hours each to get through the book! But I do recommend it!

Disappointed in the performance

Would you listen to Pandemic again? Why?

Probably not. Scott Sigler should have read the 3rd book since he read the first two. I was disappointed to find a different reader even though I really hated his female voices in the first too books. I had gotten use to his reading.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

If you read the first two of your own books out of a trilogy, read the last in the series please.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

In some ways, yes. I enjoyed the story very much and was curious how it would be resolved.

Loved the book. Was a little thrown by the new narrator's different pronunciations of names.

Narrator

The narrator reflects the text. Making the noises, and doing proper inflection. The sound they play when transferring to a different chapter helps catch the intention

A fitting end for an amazing series.

After putting this book down for a very long time, I picked it up again and I'm really glad I did.

One thing Scott Sigler does better than anyone else is put that knot in your stomach. That sinking feeling that "it isn't going to work out." That we're doomed. That bad things happen. That even main characters are expendable at all times.

This book starts out really slow and uncomfortable, which was why I put it down, but when you get into the story you realize how important those first few chapters are to the story. Without giving too much away, you spend most of this book going "Jesus Christ, how are they going to get out of this one?" Or "Oh my God, humanity is doomed." The lightbulb moments when scientists make progress make you go "Oh my God! We have hope!" You really feel invested in the whole story.

I loved this book way more than I thought I would initially. It might be my favorite in the series, the entirety of which is absolutely 100% worth reading if you haven't already.

Also worthy of note: That this is more "produced" than a typical audiobook made it so much more fun. I'm just wondering why if they were going to put all that effort into voices and modulating them, why not have a woman read the female parts?

Other than that, this one is a must-read and a must-listen!
