Publisher's summary

A modern fairy tale from Leonard Kinsey, bestselling author of The Dark Side of Disney.

Man-child Blaine McKinnon is brilliant, wealthy, and completely alone. After an emotional breakdown, Blaine starts a new life at the only place he was ever truly happy: Walt Disney World. But he soon finds that just below the surface of his childhood paradise lies a kingdom corrupted by drugs, violence, and deceit.

For the first time, Kinsey brings his fresh writing style to the world of fiction, with astounding results. Our Kingdom of Dust deftly combines and insightful and riveting tale with the humor and irreverence that made The Dark Side of Disney an international bestseller.

A unique novel set at the theme parks.

Where does Our Kingdom of Dust rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is in the top 25%. Mainly because the setting is so relevant to me as a theme park junkie.

If you’ve listened to books by Leonard Kinsey before, how does this one compare?

You can't compare this book to the Dark Side of Disney. One is a travelogue (so to speak) and this is fiction.

Which character – as performed by Leonard Kinsey – was your favorite?

Blake

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

There is a reason she is called "Snow" White and it ain't her purity.

Any additional comments?

Kinsey uses his breadth of Disney theme park knowledge and did something unique by setting a modern day adult fairy tale at a place that has so much meaning to so many of us. He mostly succeeded. There were times in the book where I wanted some more back story. In my opinion, the best part of the book was the beginning and the end. Very powerful on both fronts.

Listening to Leonard makes me moist!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Because it is super duper!

Who was your favorite character and why?

my favorite character is the ampersand (&) because it looks like a human if he was scooting his butt across the floor like a dog!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It's just...been...revoked!!

Any additional comments?

Leonard does a fantastic job of emerging the reader...or in this case..the listener into the Disney World that we all wish we could experience...not all people will like this book....but those people are prude douchebags so who cares about them...I love it and will buy everything that Leonard puts out in the future....because its just fun to read.

A nice short listen.

Somehow this simple crude profanity filled story works.

Over and above the Disney stuff, which is mainly a backdrop for this character's nostalgia of his childhood, this first person narrative gives a good insight into the lust and anxiety driven average male. Female readers may not relate but if you are reasonably broad minded its not a bad way to get inside the average man's head.

I did not like the narration at first, being used to mainly professional narrators. However I rapidly got engaged by the author's enthusiasm and the breath sounds of the narrator and the computer fan like noise in the background stopped being distracting.

I recommend this book, especially if you are a Disney nerd who can appreciate Disney's flaws and well as its 'magic'.
