Boring , boring oh my goodness

The beginning is a struggle, great character development but where is this story going and then...take a great turn and becomes one of my favorite audible books . So well written and narrated.

Story Telling At Its Finest

This was the first William Kent book I’ve listened to and it was thoroughly enjoyable. His ability to convey the thoughts and activities of a young boy and his family’s summer made me feel apart of it. Rich Orlow’s choice of voices and his ability to weave between characters was seamless and believable.

quaint, enjoyable, thoughtful, plus a mystery story

I haven't enjoyed a book this much in quite a while

I love mystery stories and am an avid reader and audible fan. This book caught me by surprise because there were many layered characters within this small town, within this small family and witin this story that wasn't a mystery yet also was. I recommend giving it a go and deciding for yourself if this is a story about small town America with a mystery to boot, a story about growing up as the son of a pastor from the view of a thoughtful 13 year old boy or it could be so many things but interesting and thoughtful and interesting are some of the adjectives that came to mind. Listen or read and enjoy for yourself.

Story was wonderful

I happened across this book and author and am so thankful that I did. The overall coming of age story of Frank was so heartfelt and I really enjoyed the character development of the family and neighbors that were a part of Frank’s life during the summer of 1961. I loved his relationship with his dad and how much his little brother looked up to him. I also loved that he had such a beautiful relationship with his sister and it was so nice to read a book where those relationships existed.

However I think what moved me the most and had me thinking a lot after was the gift of grace that is given on and off throughout the book because of the example set by Frank’s dad. This isn’t something you see in novels a lot and it gave me a lot to think about when it comes to the smallest of our actions or even our judgements of others.

It’s a great mystery with a little “Stand By Me” feel.

Great book and also loved the narration.

Entertaining Ethics

A fluid easy read; a mystery but with emotional, moral heft; a narrator we can relate to (despite my never being a 13-year-old boy in 1961). The dad and kid brother were a little too good/right. The mystery a little too easy to figure out too soon. But it was gripping and even profound.

Couldn’t put it down!

The storyline is awesome, and the narrator is extremely talented! His voices fit perfectly with the characters, and his stuttering from the boy that stuttered was brilliant!! Excellent story and narrator! Highly recommend!!
