The Diane Duvall story.
The other three stories. I was disappointed because I expect so much from each of these authors.
That the two lovers found each other and are together.
Although all four authors are good writers. The first story dragged on so long I skipped to the next then had to move on to the third. The narrator on the first story made me go to sleep throughout the short story. The last story started so badly that I finally just turned it off after chapter three. I may go back and finish but I doubt it.
F-Bomb was used 51 times. That’s OK with me but I know how some of you are with swearing. So you’ve been warned.
HUNT by ALEXANDRA IVY 5 stars
So, this is my first read by this author and I have to tell you I loved this novella and I will definitely see what else Ms. Ivy has to offer.
I loved both Mika and Bailey, and their second chance at happiness. I liked Wolfe, too. Boggs was a seriously odd character, and likable. I was happy about Jacob. After all, he was a victim, too. This was a nicely exciting novella and I didn’t feel the desire to skip even a page.
There wasn’t even a smidgen of sexual tension in this book but there was a great sex scene, just nothing that led up to it.
SCORPIUS RISING by Rebecca Zanetti and the next book isn’t due out until January. 2 stars
A CLIFFHANGER..The story was nice and exciting, but I found Nora to be more than a little naïve and kind of self-absorbed. I felt like she thought she was always right and everyone else was wrong. I loved Deacan, especially the way the narrator did his slight accent. But I can’t see me reading anything else by Ms. Zanetti because I can’t stand for a woman’s body part to be referred to as a c*nt. UGH! That’s a disgusting word. IMO. There was 3 sex scenes in this novella.
PHANTOM EMBRACE by Dianne Duvall 10 stars
Awesome story! Love, love, loved Yuri and Cat. They were such a spectacular couple. And I’ll be so glad when they find out who the traitor is. And I’ll be glad when the next book comes out. As much as I love Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark I think I love Immortal Guardians better. The players, Seth, David, Zach, Lizette, Bastian, Melanie, Roland, Richart, Etienne, and all the others, are fabulous.
As with Alexandra Ivy’s book there wasn’t an ounce of sexual tension but some great sex.
STAKE OUT by HANNAH JAYNE 3 stars, just to be fair to the author.
Sorry! Not reading a vampire book written in the first person.
As to the narrator: I'm not sure I've ever heard Arika Rapson narrate before but she did a super job on this book. I thought Deacan's slight Scottish accent was marvelous. She did great with all the voices but she doesn't have much emotion. She really didn't whisper too much, or sigh, never laughed when it was called for. She needs to practice that and she would be a excellent narrator.
Obsessed reader; found Audible helps me squeeze in extra books! Love Paranormal, Fantasy, and YA
I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. I actually bought the Audible version and have been listening to it for awhile. I'm already ramped up to read The Scorpius Syndrome series (which I own and have in my TBR pile), and I loved Dianne Duvall's Phantom Embrace; I need more of that series. I liked Ivy's On The Hunt pretty well; I would definitely check out the rest of the series when I have time. I will be honest and say I did not finish the last story - Stake Out. I'm not really into the PNR/Comedy thing. And even with that being said, I didn't find Stake Out all that funny. The main character was self-indulgent and annoying, and the humor to me was cheesy. With that being said, I enjoy collections like these because it gives the reader (or listener in my case) the opportunity to find new authors/series without having to devote the time to an entire book. Although because I did like 3/4 of the shorts, I will be devoting more time to those series : )
Having already listened to Phantom Embrace, I wondered about the beginning of Phantom Embrace. But soon saw where this was going and I was thrilled. Even in the afterlife there is love.
The only good story in here is the third one, Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall. It's worth five star if it wasn't bundled up with this lot that I've wasted money on and if it's a bit longer.
I bought this book as I have the few other compilation books, for one novella. I am addicted to Diane Duval's series Immortal Guardian books, I couldn't wait until the book came out as a single .5. In addition, I Hate this new trend of .5 books. I presume it is because fans are too eager to wait for a full book or they don't have to put as much detail etc. into it. I don't know. .5 books make me angry. (On a separate note I really enjoyed Phantom Embrace.)
Probably not for the reasons I stated above.
Not their fault. No other narrator is as good as Kirsten Potter, Tavia Gilbert and Jennifer Ikeda.
I believe the Immortal Guardian series would be an excellent series of movies, if it is done right with the right actors!
I tried to listen to the other stories, in their defense they might be good, just not for me. I really didn't give them a real chance and doubt I will.
I really enjoyed the storyline for On the Hunt.
I really did not enjoy Arika Rapson's voice. In my opinion it was not pleasant to listen to.
The 1st and 3rd stories were really good from authors that I continually enjoy.
I definitely listen to Alexandra Ivy and Dianne Duvall. I would not listen to the other two authors. The stories were tedious.
She was little whiny for my tastes. Of course, it's difficult to judge accurately since two of the authors I've listened to before and are used to those narrators. She did do a good job of differentiating.
The last story was probably the only book that I wanted to just turn off and end the misery.
Say something about yourself!
I did enjoy these short story romances. I did feel like I would have liked more of Alexandra Ivy's story to be longer and more detailed. Those 2 main characters were my favorite.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)

This was a good story. I liked Mika but found Bailey to be a bit annoying. The reasons she gave for running away from a her relationship with Mika were kind of lame and even when the real reasons came out I still wasn't thrilled with them. I think it was best that the story was short because having to deal with Bailey's issues in a full length novel would have been too much...at least in a shorter story the annoyance factor was much lower. The story itself was pretty good and I liked Mika. Things did end well with Bailey and Mika together and starting a HEA.
Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti

This was a very good story. Nora and Deacan are both likable characters and the story had a good balance of action and romance. Nora and Deacan met at 16 and fell in love. They married young but his military career and her distrust of the government made things difficult and they divorced. They couldn't forget each other though and when the Scorpius disease starts they're brought back together. It's not an easy reunion but they do come back together in the end. There is a bit of an open ended as far as the action plot goes though and I wonder if there will be more stories after this.

***Warning...spoilers are present in the review of this story****
Yuri is an Immortal Guardian and has spent the past 500 years hunting vampires and protecting humanity. TBH, I was really surprised to see that he got his own story because (as you'll know if you're current on the Immortal Guardians series) he dies at the end of book #5, Night Unbound. The majority of this story takes place during the time frame of Night Unbound, explaining how Yuri (who has a gift that enables him to see spirits) meets Cat and they fall in love...regardless of the fact that she's a spirit and Yuri alive. I really liked the relationship that they managed to have together but obviously it was limited. Yuri's death was sad but it allowed him and Cat to be together fully so although it's bittersweet, they do get a HEA together.
I really enjoyed this story and loved Yuri and Cat together. I sort of wish there was more to their story but the way thing stood, I can see it would have been hard to make it longer. I do hope that Yuri and Cat will be part of the series in the future...I could see them being a help to the Immortal Guardians in the future. :D
Stake Out by Hannah Jayne
Start time: 11:35
This was a good story. I will say that I've never read anything by this author before and might try more of her work in the future. Nina, the heroine, was alright but there were certain things about her that I wasn't majorly hot on. Also, the story focused on fashion and as someone that would probably be considered a Tomboy I wasn't really into that type of story. I think with another heroine/subject matter I would have liked it better since the author's writing seemed to be pretty good.
Basically, this story is about Nina trying to make her mark as an up and coming new fashion designer while hiding the fat that she's a vampire in a world of "breathers". Her pursuit of fashion greatness is put in danger when one of her models is turned into a vamp and Nina, her nephew Vlad and her (maybe?) boyfriend Pike have to go on the hunt for the newbie before she wreaks havoc. They get things worked out in the end but while the romance angle seems like it's heading towards a good conclusion but is left a little unresolved...maybe it'll be addressed more in later books.
Overall, this was a very good anthology that I'd give around 4 stars so I'd recommend it.
