The Powerful Concluding Novel to The Restoration Chronicles
When news that the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates have been burned with fire, Nehemiah, Jewish cupbearer to King Artaxerxes in Persia, seeks God's guidance. After fasting and prayer, he's given leave to travel to Jerusalem and rebuild the city wall, not anticipating all the dangers that await him on his arrival. The leaders of the surrounding nations become his fierce enemies, plotting to assassinate him and halt the work. A drought, meanwhile, has left the country impoverished, many families resorting to selling their children as bondservants just to keep from starving.
Capturing the rebuilding of the wall through the eyes of a number of characters, On This Foundation is a powerful exploration of faith in the midst of oppression and hope that, in spite of appearances, the gracious hand of God is upon those who believe.

Actually, it is Jennifer, not Michael. I enjoy a variety of books but am drawn to romantic historical fiction with a Christian message.
I absolutely loved this series!!! Lynn Austin is by far my favorite author. This is a biblical fiction series occurring during the lives of the prophets. This specific book involves Nehemiah.Lynn Austin is able to take the story of Nehemiah and make it so riveting that you can't stop listening. After each book, I went to the scripture and was surprised to find hour incredibly accurate it was. Entertaining and educational. I would recommend reading this in order and if you have not read the Gods and Kings series, then do so before this series. Amazing. You will not be disappointed.
I enjoyed the whole series and would recommend it but the recording (maybe the reader) was really annoying. She would whisper and I couldn't hear it then the next line she would say loudly so I was constantly turning the volume up and down through the whole book. I've never had this problem on my itouch before so I'm assuming it was the recording. All 3 books in this series had the same problem.
One of the best books I've read So well written that I found myself weeping with the characters through trials and triumphs. It also impacted me personally on a spiritual level causing me hunger to serve God more faithfully.
A wonderful, clean, read. The story lines are interesting and engaging and unpredictable. The faith of the characters strengthens my own as they seek to live according to God's law amidst their own true-to-life struggles.
this is a great series. Love the character development, plot line, and the movement of the story.
I haven't read the print version.
I don't know if I can pick out a particular moment.
Just like any audiobook, with a narrator, the listener will have a better grasp of humor, sarcasm, excitement, etc.
It adds more to listening comprehension than just reading the book.
I really like how the author gets into the minds of the characters. While we cannot actually know what someone was thinking unless they wrote it down, it is a pleasant reminder that people back then struggled with the same emotions and temptations that we struggle with today.
My entire family is terribly sad to see these stories end. We began with Gods and Kings (Book 1 of the Chronicles of the Kings) and ended with this book. They were BEGGING for me to put the next book in and devastated when I informed them there weren't any more like this.
We loved reading the book of Nehemiah and seeing the same names and events. I didn't remember Shallum and his daughters, but she wove an amazing story from a few scant details. The way she wrote the story opened my eyes to the many other events and work required to undertake such a task.
I really hope she writes more biblical fiction.
can't seem to get into the book it won't hold my
interest like Lynn Austin she is a very good author
