The Civil War has ended. Jim and Noble are two rebels who set out from San Francisco searching for gold. Neal Clark ramrod of the Circle C Ranch was in Cascade City to see the gunsmith when the Shelly gang attempted to hold up the bank. Neal rushed out of the shop and fired killing Buck Shelly and his son Luke. Buck's teenage son Ed was holding the horses. He escaped but was believed to be mortally wounded. At least that's what Neal thought - until he received a letter from Ed declaring that he’d be back to settle the score.
Clay Rose, the deputy of Tucson noticed unfamiliar horses in front of the bank. It dawned on him, something was wrong. Suddenly his boss, Sheriff Biggs was stepping fast across the street just as Frankie Giles gang burst from the bank, shooting in all directions. They gunned the sheriff down along with the Marie Ramos, the lady Clay Rose intended to marry. He had been holding her behind him trying to shield her, but in his process to shoot back, a bullet took her....
Dave Harmon, former lawman, drifted into Miles City. After a casual conversation with well-known rancher, Jeffrey Munro, Munro is attacked by three toughs. When Dave tries to intervene, a fourth man clubs him with a pistol and is about to shoot him when Pete Green, a gambler, kills the attacker. Green wants no thanks from Dave, but he does tell him that now he owes the gambler a life. Munro persuades the town council to appoint Dave as principal marshal. Pete Green urges Dave to take the job.
Crooked Sheriff Harry Gauge rules the town of Trinidad, New Mexico, with an iron fist. His latest scheme is to force rancher George Cullen into selling his spread and to take Cullen's beautiful daughter Willa for his bride - whether she's willing or not.

Chance is a bit of a hothead, good with his gun and his fists. Ace is more of a thinker, sharp as a snake bite and just as deadly quick.
