Publisher's summary

Their lives were perfect...

Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancé. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn't bother Hero... until she meets his notorious brother.

Until they met each other...

Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading, is far from perfect - and he likes it that way. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all of London knows he engages in the worst sorts of drunken revelry at night. Hero takes an instant dislike to him, and Griffin thinks that Hero, with her charities and faultless manners, is much too impeccable for society, let alone his brother. Yet their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks desire - desire that causes their carefully constructed worlds to come tumbling down. As Hero's wedding nears, and Griffin's enemies lay plans to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect people find perfect true love?

Story and narrator are perfect together

Both story and narrator are perfect together. I have been enjoying Elizabeth Hoyt's books for awhile.
It seems in her latest books, more and more chapters are designated for steamy sex. Not that that is bad but the story is good and sometimes I find myself flipping over the sex to get back to the actual story, hope that makes sense. And if you have kids, you can't or shouldn't use the speakers on the kindle or tablet. I use my Bluetooth headset.

With the Audible editions done by Ashford Macnab, I can only say that they are really good. There are really great books out there that are reduced to tears with the wrong narrator. So far, Macnab has done an excellent job of every book she has read. I hope she sticks with this series.

I found Macnab's pseudonym is Polly Lee. So, needless to say, I found some more good books.

Frustrating book

I read the first book in the series and loved it, which is why I bought this one. But I found this one quite disappointing. The love story just didn't add up for me. I did not find it believable that the h would fall for the H under the circumstances they were in. She was quite "tight laced" and was engaged to his brother. She just was not the type to behave the way she did and there was nothing that happened that could have explained her errant behavior. The H was likable but it felt like he almost forced himself on her each time they were together and considering he was supposed to be a consummate rake, it didn't add up that he was so very desperate for her attentions. I enjoyed seeing bits of the side characters but am weary of buying the next book in the series.

Deliciously Sensual & AMAZING!!!

Any additional comments?

I cannot say enough about this book. Although I LOVED IT, it was not quite as good as the first or third books in the series, but still SO WONDERFUL!!! I highly recommend this book to historical romance lovers and those yearning for that heart melting HEA. It is also super sexy and Elizabeth Hoyt knows how to write a sensual and delicious sex scene! I wish there were never an end to Maiden Lane...I will listen to this book and the entire series again and again!!!

Not my favorite. Wish I would have skipped it.

This book was just not what I'd hoped for. The dialogue was very poorly written between the two supposedly adult main characters; He was nasty for shock value, and she sounded upper class, but always had her ankles in the air. It all just felt wrong. Wrong for the period and wrong for a romance.

I loved Hero in the first book, she was strong and decisive. But in this book she was such a victim that she wasn't the same character at all.

He seduced her over and over again and then acted like he didn't need to be involved in what happened to her after that -- and she let him get away with it. He only decided to marry her pretty late in the book, which is not what is expected in a book set in this time period, or for a lady of her station. If there is such a thing as a Regency BDSM romance novel, this is it. Without the whips and chains, of course.

It all gets tidied up at the end, which i guess is supposed to make it all romantic, but by then it's too late to be very satisfying, and I just wanted a shower.

Next.

i Struggled severely to finish this book.
The storyline was weak.
A Jerry Springer plot.
Almost quit the series but I started Duke of Sin, which was phenomenal and the only reason I came back to finish this book.

DISAPPOINTING

This is the first book by Elizabeth Hoyt that I could not finish. I didn't like Hero and therefore didn't care what happened to her.
