Publisher's summary

Their lives were perfect...

Lady Hero Batten, the beautiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, has everything a woman could want, including the perfect fiancé. True, the Marquis of Mandeville is a trifle dull and has no sense of humor, but that doesn't bother Hero... until she meets his notorious brother.

Until they met each other...

Griffin Remmington, Lord Reading, is far from perfect - and he likes it that way. How he spends his days is a mystery, but all of London knows he engages in the worst sorts of drunken revelry at night. Hero takes an instant dislike to him, and Griffin thinks that Hero, with her charities and faultless manners, is much too impeccable for society, let alone his brother. Yet their near-constant battle of wits soon sparks desire - desire that causes their carefully constructed worlds to come tumbling down. As Hero's wedding nears, and Griffin's enemies lay plans to end their dreams forever, can two imperfect people find perfect true love?

Solid 4 star but Silence stole the show!

So this is a forbidden romance which is not my favorite trope and there was also a secondary romance between the Marquis and his courtesan and then everything going on with Silence was really more interesting to me so over all this was a great book but the main romance was a bit weak and distracted by everything else going on. The author is clearly setting events up for down the line books.
Generally there were three things that bugged me - otherwise this is a solid book with great action, angst, and romance: (1) the meet cute is literally the hero balls deep in another woman (what a story to tell the grandkids, right?), (2) The heroine is slapped and slut-shamed by her fiancé (the hero’s brother and (3) the heroine’s brother tries to marry her off to him anyway AND he gets his own HEA with his courtesan.
As an aside, I really struggled with the heroine’s inability to say she loved the hero for such a long time. That really dragged.
But Griffin was pretty and there were some great and super HOT moments between these two. Plus everything is set up for the next book which is truly epic!

Not bad, not great

Found myself fast-forwarding a lot through this book. it wasn't a bad read, just monotonous at times and repetitive.

Another good book in the series.

This was another great book in the series. As the sex is as hot as the first book, there was quite a bit of it this time with a little less story as the first. Still a great book but would like a little more story. I hope the third book is more like the first. It was definatly worth the credits. The narrtor does an excellent job.

::shrugs shoulders::

This book was my least favorite of the Maiden Lane series. I am not sure what it was about it that didn't interest me or at least didn't keep me listening to it without wanting to skip parts or put it down for other endeavors.

I was not a huge fan of Hero, she seemed a bit perfect yet too willing to set aside that perfection for Griffin, I didn't see the attraction or feel any chemistry between them.

I didn't particularly like the side characters with the exception of Patience and Winter (who is by far one of my all time favorite heroes - he is swoon worthy.)

There was nothing out right terrible about this book other than I am not a fan of love stories that involve cheating even if the match is arranged. Maybe it was that Hero was not that engaging or I was not interested in Griffin's chosen profession and it's side story.

It has taken me several months to listen to this book, the other 3 of the series I have listened to twice at least and loved every minute of them, but this one is very easily skipped even if part of it gives insight into Patience's story.

I wouldn't waste a credit on this. The rest of the series is much better and Elizabeth Hoyt tells a good story with flawed characters.

Ashford MacNab needs to narrate more books in my opinion. She does a fantastic job.

Good story

Good story with interesting characters even if I didn't agree with their actions. I was annoyed by Hero (Lady Hero, our protagonist) basically cheating on her fiancé. I couldn't celebrate that. But her attempts to stay away from him and keep everything platonic were pretty fun.

The narration of the audiobook must have been okay because, one day after finishing it, I can't think of anything that was out of whack.

Now I want to follow Silence's story.

Another credit worthy listen!

I have no idea what took me so long to get this book? I loved it! It was every bit as good as the first in the series. Elizabeth Hoyt/Ashford MacNab delivered yet another great historical romance with just the right amount of mystery, sex and a HEA ending.
If you liked the first book or enjoy this genre then I highly recommend this book. Just don't wait as long as I did to read it.

This was another credit worthy listen for me.

Love This Series

I have been revisiting the Maiden Lane series and they are excellent.

This installment has the stuffy peer, his rakish brother, a not so innocent yet virginal young sister of a Duke, and the demonic villain. This installment is also exciting is its action and romance!

I have a hard time pausing these books and not turning my days over to them. Thank goodness I am painting a room and have time to devote!

Worth a credit, and a second or third listen!

Just ok

Compared to the first book this one was just ok. It was unclear to me why Griffin was after Hero, the attraction was not particularly well described and the story dragged on.
