I like my horror, techno-thrillers, and science fiction. Which is why Jurassic Park and The Lost World are 2 of my favorite books ever!
I used to own N&D Vol. II on cassette and listened to these tales as bedtime stories, so I am completely biased when expressing my affection for them. I can say, having heard these stories over and over again, The Doctor's Case is my personal favorite. For those who aren't familiar, it's actually a Sherlock Holmes story, very well read by Tim Curry. I also loved Sneakers, read by David Cronenberg. Ferris Buel- I mean Matthew Broderick, Kathy Bates, Jerry Garcia, Lindsay Crouse, and Eve Belgarian(?) contribute their vocal talents to the other stories, which range from life advice( My Pretty Pony) to silly horror (The Moving Finger). Nevertheless, I really enjoyed most of these stories, but I have a very soft spot for Home Delivery. This one, about an end of the world scenario (not the only one in this volume), is read by the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King. Some people don't care for his narration. I LOVE listening to King talk. Check Needful Things if you want a sample. This collection is the reason I listen to audiobooks today.
Totally awesome, great narratives from great celebs. Short, Spooky, Awesome... Stephen King is the best!
This collection of short stories I would dare to say was more enjoyable then the first, which I also thoroughly enjoyed.
Special mention of "The Chattering Teeth", "The Moving Finger", "Sneakers" and "Home Delivery".
Now onto the third volume!
Some of the stories are far better then others, but an enjoyable listen, all the same... My particular favorite has been the Sherlock Holmes tale :D
I usually only listen to a book once, but I would enjoy listening to this again.
It was a treat that Steven King, narrated one of the stories himself.
I loved Nightmares & Dreamscapes, Volume I and I felt that Volume II was even better.
I disagree with reviewers who think this one is better than first Volume - it's not! I really enjoyed most of the first volume. This one - one story maybe sort of. The readers are first rate! but the stories are not good. Only enjoyed King's attempt at Sherlock Holmes and last story read by King himself about zombies. Rest are not good! Weirdo ideas with endings that make you irritated.
I enjoyed just about all of these stories including the readers. Definitely better than volume one. I especially enjoyed "The End of the Whole Mess" and and "Chattery Teeth." But I did enjoy them all. Kathy Bates was my favorite reader. Great read for pre-Halloween time of year.
With a couple exceptions (I'm partial to "Home Delivery"), these aren't King's best stories. The narrators are among some of the worst I've heard, particularly Jerry Garcia. Yes, that Jerry Garcia.
Difficult to follow. Only found that 2 of the stories were even worth a listen. The some of the celebs read well, others are difficult to hear or understand. Don't bother.
