Publisher's summary

This sci-fi /zombie/comedy/adventure follows a group of rag-tag Trekkies getting together for the fifth annual FedCon (billed as the "largest Starfleet Convention in the western Gulf Coast region").

Our heroes are dressed in homemade uniforms and armed with prop phasers but soon find themselves defending their hotel and convention center against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Suddenly, all of their useless knowledge about particle physics and old Star Trek episodes has genuine real-world applications! And while hotel employees and regular civilians are dying left and right, our Trekkies summon strength and courage by emulating their favorite starship-voyaging characters.

Packed with hundreds of gags referencing Star Trek, comic books, and fan conventions, Night of the Living Trekkies reads like the strange lovechild of Galaxy Quest and Dawn of the Dead. Journey to the final frontier of zombie science-fiction mash-ups!

This is an original work of parody and is not officially sponsored by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the owners of the Star Trek brand.

Good.

Really really appreciate the effort put into both the story and the performance. Zach McLarty really made it all come alive. Sam Stall and KDAnderson gave a refreshing take on the Zombie genre.

Amazing! Super fun to listen to!

I love Kevin David Anderson and his quarky writing prompts and ides. I'm not super familiar with Sam's writings so I can't attest to their other words but I really only picked up this title because it had Kevin's name on it.

I'm not super into star trek, just watched a few episodes of next generation here or there so I can't say much about the plethora of geek references in this book but the story was strange and captivating from start to finish!

Great book

This book is hysterical satire. I laughed out loud. I read the audio version and the narrator made it even better.

Even non trekkies will love this little gem

I have to be honest when I first downloaded this book I had huge reservations as I was solely buying this book because it was part of the zombie apocalypse genre to which I am loyally addicted. I came a across this little treasure purely by chance while I was browsing for something that was about zombies but that I hadn’t already listened to a thousand times. I was like zombies and a Trekkie convention WTF!!! Do I dare !!! So I took a chance. Let me assure you it is worth the credit and more. The story centres around a guy who served time in the military and now works as a security guard at a mid range hotel in a typical American city that caters to various fan boy events and conventions, this guy is a likeable and relatable protagonist with faults, flaws and a great sense of humour we can all relate to. The events for the most part play out from his perspective with a few brief moments from some of the side characters. Basically the zombie apocalypse is slowing as innocuously evolving in this city and our main character is going about an average day st work dealing with a hotel full of Trekkie fans and the accompanying hoopla that comes with. Although our guy is not aware of what is happening slowly but surely his military background has his spidy sense up that something is just off about today!! What could it be ??? Lol!!!The Trekkie angle is shown through the main characters perspective and he is not a fan really so his observations of some of the wacky people that attend these conventions while not mean or contemptible are quite hilarious and the book does not exclude or put off people who may not be Star Trek genre fans, the action and plot build slowly with o e little clue after another that tells our main character he should pay attention to his gut and find out what the hell is actually happening. The actual zombies in this story are not completely what we ZA lovers or zombie apocalypse lovers for u newbies have come to accept as the norm for the undead, their is a cool and quite clever little twist on what they are and why it is happening. Don’t get me wrong the story still has plenty of traditional zombie gore and action. The comedy is very tongue and cheek and compliments and carries the plot along very well. You will be immediately hooked into our hero’s adventure as he tries to survive the Trekkie conventions, zombies and his every day at work craziness!!! There is even a little twist in the end that really isn’t seen coming which makes it all the more enjoyable. The majority of the story plays out in the contained environment of the hotel and that plays well to give the listener the feeling of our hero being caught in a trap that he must somehow escape while he still helps those around him. Our main character is resourceful and quick on his feet while not being such a expert tactile spec ops guy that he becomes cheesy and stereotypical of the usual ZA hero’s we all know. The editing and production of the audio is completely acceptable with nothing that is glaringly bad and would distract you as a listener narrator is actually quite good and you can believe this is the voice of our main character we are hearing. I only gave the narrator three stars because I would consider someone like Wil Wheaton or Luke Daniels to be of five star quality however don’t be worried three star narrations in my opinion are about par for the course and do not disappoint or distract for the story. The story is fast moving and does not do that annoying thing where all of a sudden we find ourselves being dragged off into a totally different character and storyline for way too long, to me this breaks up the flow and causes the story to loose its forward momentum. Any deviations from the main characters perspective are brief and serve to increase enjoyment of the book not hamper it. If you love zombies or zombie apocalypse survival stories and are even tolerant of the whole Trekkie thing listen to this book I guarantee you will be doing exactly what I did and find yourself listening to this book many times over !!! Hurry people Click add to my cart now and you won’t be disappointed believe me or u can come to my house and zap with you phaser!!! Only on stun though people lets be reasonable

Surprisingly Good

Would you listen to Night of the Living Trekkies again? Why?

No, but it was fun the first time around. Now I know the jokes.

What other book might you compare Night of the Living Trekkies to and why?

I just finished the Bobiverse series, while it was not like the series, the star trek jokes made both books fun

What about Zach McLarty’s performance did you like?

After listening to many books by Ray Porter, I was a little concerned, but he was fabulous.

Any additional comments?

This book was just plain fun, made better by great narration.

Must read for Zombie nerds!

A hilariously funny and extremely nerdy zombie/Trekkie book. Zombie fans will love this book! Trekkies will love this book! Zombie fans who are Trekkies will have a full on Nerdgasm! There are so many references to Trekkie culture, I am sure I missed a lot; mostly due to the fact that I am not a Trekkie. the really relevant references are explained in just the perfect amount of detail to engage the non-Trekkie without dragging on. Don't pass this book up!!

Probaby Not As Good As You Hope It Will Be...

The idea made me smile: zombies going after Trekkies at a Con.

This is a concept novel from beginning to end...and the concept starts to wear thin around the halfway mark. Most zombie novels come down to "we saw the zombies and we ran." Repeat.

That's this story in a nutshell. Zombies come rolling in and (understandably) the heroes run. And keep running. That's the book. They just run in Star Trek uniforms, which adds a fun flavor for a while.

The narration is goofy and the plot just made me smile after a while.

No surprises here. The Star Trek vs Star Wars references are fun...but overall, it's about three stars for me.
