"A swiftly paced and authentically grounded novel....The authors' research is impeccable, and their presentation brings events down to a personal level, and, as in any good alternate vision of history, the reader is left believing it could really have happened this way." (Booklist)
Well, very well, researched and realistic. I think it shows how a very small event can have such ernormous effect on history. I do not think that there is anything that is out of the realm in this book. Do yourself a favor and listen to this whole series...
This is a great 'alternative' ending to the Civil War. It reads so true with historically correct personalities, some who survived the actual war don't survive the book. The book is also breathtaking in its geographic accuracy. I happen to be in the area while listening to the book and was able to drive around some of the battle sites....and they are in real life as described in the book.
Interested in History, Politics, and Economics.
I understand that it is a novel, but it is billed as Historically accurate fiction. I have read many Historically accurate books about the Civil War, but this book only served as an avenue to confuse those who are not totally current on Civil War History.
Newt is a great historian and his books are wonderful. This one is no exception. I highly recommend it as a thought provoking read using alternative history.
This series was entertaining realistic and well read. I could not stop listening. The final part, this book, was at times like listening to a football game, I actually felt myself swept up and rooting. I actually wanted to scream "on men, on"
This is the first time I have read a book from this series and I found it exciting where I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put it down. What surprises me though is the fact battles took place in diffent places and people were killed in the story that didn't die in those battles in real history. The real story of the war is so interesting that I didn't see the need to make changes that were this big. I was just caught off guard when the story didn't follow the line of the real war.
