Publisher's summary

Nefertiti and her younger sister, Mutnodjmet, have been raised in a powerful family that has provided wives to the rulers of Egypt for centuries. Ambitious, charismatic, and beautiful, Nefertiti is destined to marry Amunhotep, an unstable young pharaoh. It is hoped by all that her strong personality will temper the young Amunhotep's heretical desires.

From the moment of her arrival in Thebes, Nefertiti is beloved by the people. But as she turns her attention to producing a son, she fails to see those plotting against her husband's rule. The only person wise enough to recognize the shift in political winds is Mutnodjmet. Observant and contemplative, Mutnodjmet has never shared her sister's desire for power. Her greatest hope is to share her life with the general who has won her heart. But as Nefertiti learns of the precariousness of her reign, she declares that her sister must remain at court and marry for political gain, not love. To achieve her independence, Mutnodjmet must defy her sister while also remaining loyal to her family.

Love, betrayal, political unrest, plague, and religious conflict: Nefertiti brings ancient Egypt to life in vivid detail. Fast-paced and historically accurate, it is the dramatic story of two unforgettable women living through a remarkable period in history.

Critic reviews

"Beautifully written and completely engrossing." ( Library Journal)
" Nefertiti is a fascinating window into the past, a heroic story with a very human heart. Compulsively readable!" (Diana Gabaldon)
"Though sometimes big events are telegraphed, Moran...gets the details just right, and there are still plenty of surprises in an epic that brings an ancient world to life." ( Publishers Weekly)

As if I was a fly on the wall of ancient Egypt

The book was a captivating story about Nefertiti and her family and brought to life the story we know from history. The narrator was great and put extra emphasis in the emotions of the characters. Although there where male characters in the book the narrator voiced them herself and I found did an amazing job. If you are are looking for a book to have you spell bound from start to finish I would highly recommend it.

A twist to history

A very enjoyable book...A new look on what might have happened to this Queen and her family...since there are questions as to what happened to Tut's mother and who she might have been...then why not this possiblity?
A book that I know I will listen to again and again.

Great Read

I really enjoyed this book. It was engrossing from beginning to end, with no slow moments. Much of it is true to the known history of Nefertiti and her family. I look forward to the next work by this author.

a little more histoty

I was looking to learn about Egypt through a good story. While, the plot is interesting... I could have used a little more history. I also thought the wording and performer seemed a bit modern.

Death, hatred, betrayal, & love. It's all here !!!

If you enjoy novels of old Egypt, this is a book for you. It's more the story of Mutnodjmet, Nefertiti’s younger sister, then Nefertiti herself, but still a fun read.
