    "A good book and narration"

I can't believe the only two written reviews are negative. This book is exactly what I've come to expect from Stephen King over the years: a meandering path through a spine tingling story with an ending that leaves only enough to the imagination to keep you thinking about it.

Mr. King's narration may not be as stellar as Mr. Gaiman's narration of his own works, but most professional narrators aren't as good as Mr. Gaiman. Mr. King is definitely better than most authors who attempt to read their own stuff, and I quite enjoy it. I think he's actually better than many narrators, but everyone has their favorites. I prefer his narration of Bag of Bones to Needful Things, but this one is solid.

Listen to the sample. If you enjoy Stephen King's novels, don't miss this one!

    "Very bizarre..."

This book was a hard listen at first. I actually put it down about a quarter of the way through to read another book. I then came back to it. Surprisingly, as soon as I picked it up again, I became entrenched into it. It's not one of King's best, but it is an interesting story. I personally think he does a fantastic job at narrating his own book. Yeah his voice is a little weird, but so are his stories...

"Great book, but why the music?"

This book was classic Stephen King. I like listening to him read his books, but whomever was responsible for adding the music to this audiobook should be fired. The music is so loud in some parts that it's hard to hear what is being said. It adds absolutely nothing to the experience and detracts from an otherwise great audiobook.

    "Great story, strange music"

I really enjoyed this book quite a bit, and, unlike some others, really enjoy King's narration. He has a very distinctive voice that sets himself apart from other narrators. My problem, however, was the addition of these strange 'music' additions to the story. Every so often this odd, '80s electronic keyboard music would begin playing. It struck me as very out of place and several times made it a little hard to hear the story.

"A good S.K. story, but terrible music choice."

The producers of this story chose to use some of the most glaring and inappropriate music for events that were occurring in the plot. For example, during the fight between Wilma Jerczic (sp?) and Nettie Cobb, the music sounded as gay and lively as a calliope. It was absurd given the gruesome tone and nature of the event in the story.

They likewise chose very inappropriate music for several other key plot points, disturbing the mood of the story and making it seem as if the whole thing was some big joke.

So - Story OK for S. King, not the best and not the worst.
Narrator - S.K. himself, doing a good job.
    Music accompaniment - AWFUL.

    "Great Story"

Another Great book from Mr. King. The only think keeping me from giving this 5 stars is the naration could be better.

    "Nice creepy read"

I liked this book. It has a nice mix of good people type characters, flawed characters and some not so nice folks. I loved the narration and wish all Mr. King's books were narrated by him. It's like spending time with an old friend.

    "Small-town Yankees"

I can't believe the bad reviews this audiobook got until now. The story is nothing less than superb and the narration is first-rate too. I know that sometimes the author is not a good narrator of his or her own work, but this is not the case here. For sure one of his best works with a lot of intriguing characters and a lot of action for sure. If you fancy a small-town spooky story this is the one to go!

    "I needed this!"
What made the experience of listening to Needful Things the most enjoyable?

Stephen King having read it so I didn't have to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leland Gaunt? (I am blind I'm guessing at the spelling).

Which character ??? as performed by Stephen King ??? was your favorite?

I like the depth of characters, King's performance isn't spectacular but I can forgive that.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

They did with Ed Harris and Max Von Sydow. I loved it too!

    Any additional comments?

I believe this to be one of King's best works EVER. The magical weaver of words defines people, places, and actions with an ease that's mesmerizing at times. However, this book, like some of his others can get explicit and gory at times which may drive some away. Nevertheless, the characters and message of this book are truly fascinating and the way it is told is absolutely captivating.

Stephen King reading this book is more of a treat than a performance to me. I love to hear authors read their own works. It's kind of like getting a personal insight as to how they would hear their own characters voices and attitudes.

Overall, buy this book. It's a true classic.
