Nantucket Nights: A Novel | [Elin Hilderbrand]

Nantucket Nights: A Novel

For 20 years, Kayla, Antoinette and Val have performed their own special summer ritual. Once a year, the old friends put aside their daily, separate lives to drink champagne, swap stories, and swim naked under the Nantucket stars. But on one of those bonding nights, one of their trio swims out from the shore and doesn't return. After the surviving friends emerge from their grief, they realize that the repercussions of their loss go far beyond their little circle, and they begin to uncover layers of secrets - and their connections to each other - that were never revealed on the beach.

The ties between women can run as deep as the ocean - but so can the secrets.

For 20 years, Kayla, Antoinette, and Val have performed their own special summer ritual. What has made their friendship strong now has the power to destroy - their marriages, families, even themselves.

"It's Hard For Me to Rate This One"

It's hard for me to give this book a rating. I finished it, so at least it delivered on some level. However, Elin Hilderbrand seems to have a knack for creating characters that I do not like. I didn't like any of the 3 women main characters in this book, but I stuck with the book to see what happened, and because a friend of mine recommended the book. I started another book written by the same author, and about 1/3 of the way through, again, I decided I didn't like any of the characters, didn't care what happened to them, and didn't finish the book.

I don't think I will be spending any more money on Elin Hilderbrand books.

"Overly dramatic story with horrible narration!"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

It was ridiculously dramatic. There was not one character in this book who had any redeeming qualities. I honestly was angry listening to this book because one character was worse than the next! This book's whole theme seems to be "with friends like that, who needs enemies!" I have only an hour left and I'm forcing myself to listen to the rest because I'm hoping that the end of the book will at least give me some closure to this horrible story!

What could Elin Hilderbrand have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make at least one character likable!

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator was too slow and breathy. She took so many deep breaths during her narrations that I kept feeling like I was out of breath. She sounded like she had just run a race and was struggling to breathe. I also hate the voices she used for Antoinette and Val. Antoinette sounded like a man and Val's voice was like nails on a blackboard. Honestly will not listen to any other books narrated by this person.

Did Nantucket Nights inspire you to do anything?

    No. Horrible!

    Any additional comments?

Horrible story... horrible narration...the book literally made me angry!
