Audie Award Nominee, Paranormal, 2013

Teenage delinquent Angel Crawford lives with her redneck father in the swamps of southern Louisiana. She's a high school dropout, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and has a police record a mile long. But when she's made into a zombie after a car crash, her addictions disappear, except for her all-consuming need to stay "alive".

Critic reviews

"Allison McLemore's delicate voice and Southern accent give Angel's first-person narration a humorous kick. McLemore excels at bringing Angel's self-deprecating and sarcastic comments to life. Her brisk pacing suits Angel's personality and draws listeners in from the first chapter, keeping them glued to their earphones as she plays up the book's 'gross factor' with drawling descriptions of gooey brains and crunchy skull cavities. She's also good at giving unique voices and mannerisms to secondary characters." ( AudioFile)

White Trash is a Winner!

Really enjoyed this great spin on the zombie genre. Rowland tells a funny, tragic, entertaining and interesting story of a young lady on the ropes of life. She's down and out and doesn't even know it until an encounter with the undead changes everything. Replacing her addiction to pills, drugs and losers with a craving for brains wakes her up and gives her "unlife" new meaning.

I put off reading this book for a long time, even though it kept popping up as a top choice on review sites, but Im very glad I finally picked it up. Well written, great characters, very believable situations, make it one of the best zombie books I've read. Definitely going to read the rest of the series.

I listened to the Audible version and the narrator - Allison McLemore has the perfect voice and accents for these characters. Well done all around.

Loved every minute

This a really great take on the genre. You've got to stretch a bit to fit it in with regular zombies, but it's got so much going for it. There's a lot of heart, great characters, good plot, and good relationships. And they keep the hunger and present and visceral as anything I've ever read. I just finished this book and gladly jumped immediately into book 2.

Well done!

I have no interest in zombies. But wait a minute—This was a fun and coherent story. I’m starting the next in the series immediately!

Delightfully surprised!

I thought that I wouldn't really be into "another Zombie" book. But, this wasn't the case. I don't think I'll continue the series. But, the one book, was funny, spell-binding, scary, etc. Who woulda thunk that a brain-eating-zombie would be the hero. Oh and that the hero is white trash. Well written and surprisingly good book, well worth your time.

Loved it!

What did you love best about My Life as a White Trash Zombie?

I loved that the zombies were just regular people that happened to need to eat brains. No crazed mindless killing and consuming.

Allison McLemore made this story. Her performance was amazing.

A very brainy read

What did you love best about My Life as a White Trash Zombie?

My first Diana Rowland read and I am hooked. Love the story line and content and Alison McLemore nailed it as the narrator. Can't wait to start book 2.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was she got that no good boyfriend of her told and let him know he wasn't good enough for even a dead girl who dined on brains although he doesn't know about the brains yet.

Who was the most memorable character of My Life as a White Trash Zombie and why?

Most memorable character to me is Angel herself because she kept getting better and better as a person which is what we would like live people to do when a life changing situation happens.

Any additional comments?

Good Ol' White Trash Fun.

I've had this title sitting in my wish list for ages now, hesitant to give it a try. I must say I am seriously disappointed... in MYSELF for waiting so long to listen!
Definitely a different take on Zombies, but a very entertaining read nonetheless. If you are looking for an intelligent read, this is not for you. However, if you are wanting something fun to listen to while you fold those pesky mismatched socks, this is the your book.
I can't tell you if Allison McLemore is spot on with her southern accents, but I found them to be downright funny. She did a fantastic job in my humble opinion.
Moral of this review.... definitely judge this book by its cover. If the cover art doesn't attract you, keep moving. If you find yourself liking the cover art, don't let this little gem sit in your wish list forever like I did! Give it a listen, you won't be disappointed.

A good chick-lit zombie read

I liked the story, and the narrator was great. She really made the characters believable. I think I would continue the series.
