"A Nice Twist That Partially Delivers"

Mandy Harris; rock 'n' roll's bad girl comes home with a big secret and a determination to live a different life. Instantly she meets the girl of her dreams; sickeningly sweet platitudes and then the relationship is ripped asunder and Mandy goes back to the bottle; then back on tour, but she has been changed. The scenes from the road are well written and ring true. While still portraying Mandy's growth there is no devolving into the cliches that encumber Mandy's inner thoughts and her dialogue with Bella. Her ability to be among both the masses and the press while avoiding hearing anything about what's going on in the town she left behind strains credulity it sets up the one of the classic cliches of lesbian romance where the story once again devolves into smarmy saccharine inner dialogue. For all the scorn I've heaped upon it this was a good listen and I won't hesitate to purchase the next book in the series.

    "An amazing ride"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I purchased this book after reading the reviews, and it sounded similar to another book i enjoyed

What other book might you compare Music of the Soul to and why?

It does remind me a little of Dangerously Close, by Dee J. Adams another author i enjoyed listening to.

    Which scene was your favorite?

To not spoil the book i have to say the first voice mail she listens to...

Who was the most memorable character of Music of the Soul and why?

Temping to say Anabella - shes an amazingly strong and amusing character, but i definitly have to say Mandy herself, shes exceptionally well rounded and being in her head was definitly alot of fun

    Any additional comments?

For any Scifi Fans i strongly reccomend Return of the Asgard by Erik Schubach as well i definitly hope to see more of this authors works on audible in the near future - worth every dollar in my book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is the first time I use an audio book and I can definitely say I can recommend the experience. By listening to the story you get a new perspective and even get to experience emotions that when you only read the book you might have even missed. I was able to just close my eyes and go on the wonderful journey the story brings us.

What did you like best about this story?

I actually liked everything about the book, the characters dept and development, the way the story evolved and simply pulls you in. I laugh and I cried, it was a complete reading experience.

    Any additional comments?

One thing I love about this author is that you are able to actually enjoy the book, see the characters growth, their way of thinking and you are able to simply be part of a wonderfully constructed universe. (well maybe more than one thing lol) oh and simply the idea that you get what you pay for, if its a romance book you wont get erotica and porn with a bit of "romance" in between, you actually get romance, a story, character development and simply enjoyment.

    "Terrible Story"

The main character Mandi is a coward that runs from her problems, uses people, and ignores the very people that are trying to help her. Abandons her new born child with a nanny for a month, she doesn't once talk to her baby, but instead only listens to the nanny's daily voicemails. Mandi came off as weak and dumb. No emotional connection, an entire side goes on for a month and she is clueless. She started out like ankle in the beginning of the story, but as it went on, I lost all respect for her..... and in my view, she never redeemed herself. Do not recommend.

    "Barely got through it"
What would have made Music of the Soul better?

Different narrator - at least for the main character's voice. She would have been fine as the sweet girlfriend but just didn't work for me at all as a hardened rock star bad girl. Also, the plot was just too predictable, dragging in parts and all heavy with too many cliches and unrealistic "cutesy" remarks by tough girl rock star.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something else in this genre - but not by this author.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Pamela Lorence?

Frankly wouldn't want to waste someone's talent on this lousy story.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Might be ok for young adult fiction - but would hope the young adults might have higher expectations in terms of the plot.

    Any additional comments?

Don't mean to be unkind, but just want to spare anyone else wasting their time on this one.

    Story
    "soft romance"

Okay, I guess this is a first novel by Erik Schubach, the novel is a lesbian romance, there is no erotica in the story. The tale is about a rock star, Mandy who decides to take a break and head home to find she runs into Anabella, a fan who is deaf and they fall in love, but then separate when Mandy believes she has badly messed up Anabella life with her fame and bad image of the past. Okay, in terms of the story itself. First to say it took me a a bit to get use to the narrator who seemed to improve over time, in the end she was okay, and I liked the two voices she used for the characters. But it was hard going at first, as she sounded a bit too sweet. The audio quality is okay, put check that please as it is subjective. The story is a pleasant romance and includes a far amount of gentle wit and cute family observations/banter. The story itself is fairly predictable, so its a pleasant listen, not really edge of your seat stuff. There are some stretches of reality I found hard to believe, The age of the characters seem too young for the dialog, some of the dialogue and witty references, make it easy to identify the author, and and that should not be the case. There are a number of emotional built ups, and some of them don't make too much sense from a plot perspective or character (things people would not do in real life, like stop to look at a billboard of your loved one, when suppose to be racing to get to them to save their life). In general its a nice, emotional story and I like the characters, the batter and dialog is good, I just felt the characters needed to be more "in character", and some of the drama was a bit fabricated or hyperbole, and did not fit with the characters themselves. Okay for a first novel. There was an some elements missing from the novel which would have strengthened it, the journey to love was a bit short lived, and a bit too much touring. In any case (rambling..). Worth a listen, and a good romance lesbian novel without erotica. 7/10.

    Story
"One of the better stories, well worth a listen."

I wasn't too sure about this to start with. Mainly because I wasn't sure about the narrators voice, but that's *nothing* to do with the way the narrator tackled the story, and had everything to do with personal preference because I found her voice just pitched slightly high for my taste. So kudos to Pamela Lorence for doing a good enough job for me to be able to easily look past that. She serious deserves an encore for managing to allow me to focus fully on the story and nothing else.

After listen to the sample I took a chance, and it came as some surprise to find I really enjoyed the way the story was woven together. The whole thing really revolves around how friendships can be some of the most important things in a persons life. Good friends who understand you without needing to be prompted, and how that can evolve into unspoken support. Sure, it was easy to work out the whys and the wherefores as the plot developed. However, it keeps you engaged, and you look forward to the end. There is also some good use of humour sprinkled within the characters dialogue.

The narrator does a very good job, making sure there is a definitive line between characters and emotions. And unlike some recordings out there, this one is pretty good engineering wise.
