Publisher's summary

Claudia Mair Burney's mysteries featuring Amanda Bell Brown have been praised for their sassy combination of smarts and spirituality. Brown is a forensic psychologist with a spiritual background. When a murder investigation unearths connections to a past she'd rather forget, she's dragged into the turmoil before she knows it. She'll need a strong faith in the Lord to get through this one - and having a very fine detective on her side won't hurt either.

It had promise

The story had promise but never really reached its potential. I had a love/hate relationship with the main character. I loved that she was so willing to see the good in everyone. I hated that she was so naive and gullible. There were times when I wanted her to get a clue. By the end I think I truly grasped the extent that her traumatic experience with the cult impacted her life and ability to have healthy relationships with others. Maybe this shouldn't have been classified as a mystery. It would be better as just a work of fiction where the author could have explored Bell's trauma more.
I will give the author another chance with this character. Hopefully the next one in the series is better.
