Three never-before-collected short stories from number-one New York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly.
In "Cahoots", a backroom poker game turns deadly when a cheater is exposed. In "Mulholland Dive", a man who deciphers the hidden codes of accident scenes investigates a fatality off L.A.'s most fabled roadway. In "Two-Bagger", an obsessed cop tails an ex-con he believes is about to carry out a contract killing.
Together these gripping, unforgettable stories show that Michael Connelly "knows the workings of the LAPD and the streets of the City of Angels like he knows his own name" (Boston Globe).
This special audio edition also features a sneak preview from Connelly’s highly anticipated next novel The Black Box, in which LAPD Detective Harry Bosch must confront the city's and his own haunted past.

Three short stories: cheating at an 1920s backroom poker game, a traffic crime investigator analyzes the scene of a suspicious celebrity death, and a cop tails a would-be assassin to a Dodgers game. The stories were all decent because Connelly’s a good writer but they’re lightweight and easily missed, even for fans. His short story books “Angle of Investigation” and “Suicide Run” were much better. Bechdel test: fail.
I enjoyed these short stories. But, frankly Michael Connelly and his characters (Bosch or Haller) are at their best in complete books.
Good narration, but not too much to work with.
Dependable story line full development of characters surprise ending.
I love Harry Bosch. Wish I could meet him in person.
It is easier to form mental pictures when you listen instead of read.
There are a million stories in Los Angeles and this is one of them.
If you want your short stories trite and formulaic, this is the book for you. If you want something nearer to professionally written short stories, avoid this book.
I was shocked that a professional writer would allow something so lacking in story and style to be published
i would have given him something to work with
don't buy this book
"Not your usual Connelly - and a pity for it!"
I did not warm to this read at all! A true Connelly fan, I was disappointed by the lack of speed and found it difficult to finish the story, something that rarely happens to me. I'd say you would be better off with Suicide Run if you're looking for short stories.
"NOT WHAT IS CURRENTLY SAYS ON THE TIN!"
This promises three shorts but only includes the Mulholland Dive story.... buyer beware! The story itself is a good one - but I paid for three not 1
