2015 Audie Award Finalist for Fiction and Solo Narration—Male

In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the "perk" and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady's next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Pretty Good

Lengthy, disturbing thriller. Pretty fine story to me. Patton has a good voice for the book and doesn't disappoint.

Mr Mercedes

Unexpected genre for King, last thing of his I have read was The Dark Tower books though. Once this captured me I could not stop listening.

Classic Stephen King "who done it" mode

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, a good, interesting story - all is well in the end as SK sees fit! Will Patton is terrific, as usual!!

Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?

A tie between the Ret Dect and Brady- he brought out the complex characters of both of them. All of his characters are great, though

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The idea of poisoning the dog. Then when it happens as it does-that is the most horrific part of the book!

Was sad to see it end

I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator bright the characters to life. Every Time I began to listen I was pulled back in to the story. Wanting to hear more. At the end I began searching for more of Mr. Kings books. I have already listened to Joyland and enjoyed it very much. Another great narration. Enjoy

Subtle insanity behind the wheel

Stephen King continues to deliver his signature style. A glimpses of what makes the insane, insane; as well as how far a retired cop will go to "make things right". Great book.

Great!

King does it again as the terrific story teller he has proven to be over many years. The story could be summarized, but never adequately described, it just needs to be experienced.

As for the performance, Will Patton rocks! I have always admired the actor's work on the screen, but his audio performance deserves an award...is there such a thing yet?

A great story, told in a great way. Way to go
