Publisher's summary

2015 Audie Award Finalist for Fiction and Solo Narration—Male

In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the "perk" and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady's next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

Good Listen

Kept me engaged throughout. Characters were interesting and not overly developed. Would recommend this title to anyone looking for a well written crime thriller.

Stephen and Will do it again.

For King's first detective novel, it's excellent. Will Patton is an excellent King narrator, hope he's picked to narrate more of his books. A great cast of characters. No supernatural elements, but, I don't mind the author branching out.

Bad Honey Boy

If you could sum up Mr. Mercedes in three words, what would they be?

Oh My God...

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hodges of course, from the beginning this ex cop went above and beyond any duty to stop a killer and even had it in him to help two people be better people.

Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?

Will Patton was great as usual ... he always gives life to the characters which Stephen King needs to pull this story off as an audible book.

If you could rename Mr. Mercedes, what would you call it?

Honey Boy

Any additional comments?

Hats off to this story... SALUTE

Another Hit from King!!!

This book had me captured right from the beginning. Will Patton narrates this perfectly and the characters reach right out to you in your mind. It has so many flavors to it. Despair, death, horror, destruction, insanity, incest, sadness and then throw in some humor, laughter, friendship, companionship, love and just down right adventure. It is a book I will read again. I don't want to give anything away but I would love to say more. Stephen King is a master at writing about real people.

Excellent Steven King

I read all the SK oldies, and his story and characters get me every time! I am half-way through the 2nd book in the trilogy, and it's great also. Narration is terrific.

fun tale, a few bad choices

bill hodges, the det ret, made a couple of major mistakes that seem uncharacteristic for someone who is alleged to have been a great detective. other than those few "choices" the story is solid and terrifying.
