2015 Audie Award Finalist for Fiction and Solo Narration—Male

In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands.

In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes.

In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the "perk" and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady's next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands.

Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

I enjoyed this book!

Would you consider the audio edition of Mr. Mercedes to be better than the print version?

I don't have enough time to read that much but I am driving constantly and audio books are my constant companion.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It did.

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Probably one of the best I have witnessed. I was first introduced to Will in the John Lee Burke Novels and I am amazed how well he has transitioned to other authors. FIVE STARS.

If you could rename Mr. Mercedes, what would you call it?

Mind Games

Any additional comments?

I usually find Stephen King Books to be very long but this one held my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. While it had some of the usual "King Gore" and surprises, it had somewhat of a tender side too.

Excellent!

This is a great listen and a great story. It departs from King's usual fare in that there is no supernatural happenings so it's more of a traditional detective story. But King still manages to humanize his "monster" so that the listen is compelling. His heroes are also not the usual King cast, which is a nice departure. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed it!!

If you like great characters and I especially liked Holly you will love this book! I am thrilled there is another to follow. After my teenage days of reading Stephen King I gravitated away from his books but now in my mid fifties and after listening to Dr. Sleep I am reborn in my enjoyment of his work. He is a master of making some very grim things laugh out loud funny and I find myself looking forward to those well placed bits of humor. I am hoping now that he keeps on writing as long a humanly possible and I can go on enjoying his well developed stories as long as humanly possible. I am so looking forward to Finders Keepers. Bill Hodges how are you now?

Phenomenal Change-up from Prototypical King

I couldn't stop listening to this! I'm a huge King fan and this was a very refreshing change up from a lot of his other works. Highly recommend for those who like to be carried through suspense for a whole book.

In love all over again!

Stephen King, where have you been?! Clear and detailed character development. You feel intimate with the characters. Fast paced, compelling story line. And an end that makes you both sad and wanting more (with just the tiniest measure of creepy thrown in). Literary allusions are similar to King's movie cameos. King fans....don't miss this!

I'm off to read Finders Keepers!!!
