Montana Dawn - Book One in The McCutcheon Family Series

2010 Maggie Finalist, 2010 Gayle Wilson Finalist , RWA Golden Heart Finalist

Montana Territory, August 1883

When Luke McCutcheon finds Faith Brown about to give birth in her rickety wagon, his first instincts are to ride for help. Instead, he stays and delivers a beautiful baby girl. Unable to leave the pretty young widow and her little son and newborn unprotected in the Montana wilderness, he brings them along on his family's cattle drive, to the absolute delight of the other friendly cowboys.

Luke, third son of Montana's wealthy McCutcheon family, is different from his brothers. As the offspring of a Cheyenne warrior, he carries a chip on his shoulder for all to see. His flashing eyes and handsome face make Faith feel she's stepped into some long-ago tale where men cherish their women--and keep them safe. If only she could trust him! Faith is on the run, and although she's pampered and protected by Luke and his family, she just can't risk the consequences of sharing the details of her past--one that's hunting to take her back to the nightmare she's just escaped. Happy-ever-afters are for fairytales, she reminds herself sternly as her heart feels the warm pull of his. Still, she can't help but dream of a loving family, a home to call her own, a beautiful and bright...Montana Dawn.

A truly great story.

What did you love best about Montana Dawn?

I loved the interaction of the family, the birth of a baby in a wagon and the name of that baby.

What did you like best about this story?

I could truly feel the great heart of Luke. His sincere caring about Faith and her children.

Have you listened to any of Corey M. Snow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is a new experience for me. I enjoyed listening to Mr. Snow and his voice inflections as he read this book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Listening to Luke's Mother relay the circumstances surrounding his birth and having an Indian father made me feel I could understand how this family came together.

Any additional comments?

I read this book a couple years ago and now have listened to the audio of this story. I can honestly say that I got more out of this book by hearing it read to me. I had forgotten how wonderful it is to listen to someone read to me. I loved it!

Good Old Fashioned Historical Western Romance

Any additional comments?

Montana Dawn is written like an old time historical romance from 20-years ago, which I enjoyed. There is just the right amount of sexual tension and the right amount of humor. The story centers on a cowboy Luke, the third son of Montana’s wealthy McCutcheon family, who falls for a young widow and mother, Faith, who is running away from a nightmarish life.

Corey Snow's narration was excellent. She had good pace, inflections, and tone. I also liked the differing voices, not only between the genders, but the generations as well.

What I didn't particularly like was Faith's waffling between whether or not she should trust Luke. He gave her no indication that he was anything like her deceased abusive husband and he is from a good natured family. It was unbelievable near the end of the book when she runs away when it is clear that Luke wants her to stay and become his wife and she wants the same. Besides those few scenes, which should have been deleted entirely, Montana Dawn was a nice way to pass a long car trip.

"Montana Dawn" Thumbs Up!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I used to listen to audio books quite a bit in my twenties when I drove a lot, so this one was the first in a very long while. I loved the experience. Don't want to spoil anything so here's a little taste.
This story was intriguing from the beginning, a cowboy, a damsel in distress, a baby, and trouble on the horizon! All the things you'd want in a Western romance!

What does Corey M. Snow bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked his strong voice and that it changed a little when a new character spoke. Not too much, but enough to have the reader feel as if they were in the scene.
