This could have been a great story, but sadly it was a little to unrealistic, especially the ending. The reader, was articulate and clear, but the sound quality was terrible. You can hear the reader swallowing and noises that sounded like chewing. I've listened to 16 audiobook from this site and I have not encountered that problem with the others.
This was a wonderful book with twists and turns that caused your emotions to go on a rollercoaster ride. The only complaint I have is as another reviewer has written ... once you get past the reader and her swallowing, it is a very enjoyable listen. Unfortunately, the swallowing sounds continue from beginning to end so you will have to brace yourself if this is something that makes your flesh crawl! So.. an enjoyable but uncomfortable listen.
The portrayal of these black girls angered me. These girls are everything a black writer should not make her girls: loud, obnoxious, obsessed about the fact that they are black, dirty-mouthed, promiscuous, and uncaring mothers. This is the nightmare stereotype that people have fought so hard to throw away. The things these girls do are petty, self-serving, and just plain stupid sometimes. I couldn't finish the book.
This book may be good however the reader is terrible. She sounds as if she is eating while reading. I was unable to listen past the first 3 chapters.
After reading other reviews, I had high expectations that were not realized. The storyline was unreal, the love scenes were nothing but soft porn, and the writing was full of trite sayings and otherwise boring descriptions. The author had a good idea that could have been turned into a good story with a more gifted writer. Because I always commit myself to completing a book, I suffered through it; however, I do not recommend this audible book.
This is one book I would recommend to my friends. Once you get past the reader and her swallowing (yes you can hear it as she reads) you will want to keep listening and not want to be interrupted until you have finished the book. The characters in this book definately don't do what you expect. You will laugh as well as cry when you listen to this book. Great work of art.
The unexpected turn of events were captivating. I will definately be looking for more from this author. I usually only listen during my commute, but finished this one in one day.
If you like soapy storylines with lots of twists and turns and baby daddy drama, this one is for you. If you tend to eye roll at that sort of thing skip it. I think this would have made a better read than listen because the narrator was distracting.
I don't know why I love this book so much. The mix of sex, African american culture, and drama has me hooked. very well done.
