Publisher's summary

Popular author Ann B. Ross’ fan base grows with the publication of each novel in her Miss Julia series, which has cracked the New York Times extended best-seller list.

In this episode, the graceful Southern lady’s impeccable manners are pushed to the brink. When she learned her philandering (and late) husband left behind a lover and illegitimate son, Miss Julia could have gotten nasty. Instead, she kept her cool, adding Hazel Marie and Little Lloyd to her makeshift family. But now rumors are surfacing that call Little Lloyd’s patrilineage into question. Has Miss Julia been duped? The only way to know for sure might be to exhume Wesley Lloyd Springer’s body for a DNA test.

Fresh, funny, and full of Southern charm, Miss Julia Stands Her Ground. is as appealing as a cold glass of lemonade and an empty rocking chair in the shade.

Spend some more time with Miss Julia.

disappointing, confusing 'flashbacks'

no indications that certain chapters were flashbacks to earlier times in miss Julia's relationship with hazel-marie and "little Lloyd". plot started well but was swallowed up by the great number of reminiscence chapters

As always - great for some good laughs!

This series is wonderful for someone who is looking for light hearted laughter. The writing and narration are both excellent. The narration helps make the books in this series (in my personal opinion).

Audio needs serious editing.

The story is okay, although some ridiculous behavior that isn’t particularly funny, but I agree with the reviewers who note that the audio includes a lot of swallowing and saliva sounds by the narrator that are pretty stomach churning to listen to.

Standing up for Hazel Marie

Miss Julia Stands her Ground is another fun addition to Ann B. Ross’s delightful series. Hazel Marie has settled in as part of the family, with Miss Julia’s working hard to get Hazel Marie and Little Lloyd accepted by the members of the church community. Then Sam, Miss Julia’s husband, hears from the cousin of Hazel Marie who kidnapped Little Lloyd in the first book. Brother Vernon Puckett, a self-styled preacher, has come up with claims that Little Lloyd is not the son of Miss Julia’s late husband but rather another man she was seeing at the same time. Determined not to allow Brother Vernon Puckett from getting his way, Miss Julia and Sam work to find the truth and keep Little Lloyd from losing his inheritance.

This sweet series shows the depth of life and of the way people in small town America think and function.

Cynthia Darlow does a delightful job narrating this audiobook and helping this series become true to life. Her voices seem realistic.

I recommend Miss Julia Stands her Ground. The site line is interesting and the characters recognizable. I give this book four stars.

DISAPPOINTED

I had to restart twice thinking I was reading the wrong book in sequence. The flashbacks aren't explained well enough.

A little confusing when Miss Julia started reminiscing

At times, when Miss Julia was reminiscing, I was confused as to what she was talking about. Since I am listening to the audio version, it wasn’t convenient to go back like it is in a book. However, I still enjoyed it.

Eeeeewww, the mouth noises

What did you like best about Miss Julia Stands Her Ground? What did you like least?

Loved the story, and the narrator does a good job overall. But there has been no editing out of mouth noises, so you hear a prominent gulp every time the narrator swallows and a sticky smack sound whenever she opens up her mouth to start a new sentence. If you have any hint of misophonia, you won't be able to take it. Haven't noticed this with other audible books in this series with this same narrator, so I think it's just bad sound editing.
