Publisher's summary

The scene of this entertaining story is laid in a charming English village. The plot centres round Miss Barbara Buncle, a maiden lady who was obliged to write a book because – as she naively explained – her dividends were so poor. Unfortunately, Miss Buncle had no imagination, so she wrote about her friends – quite kindly and truthfully, of course, for she was a benevolent and veracious soul.

The reactions of her friends to Miss Buncle’s book, however, were a little surprising, and the far-reaching and unexpected results of its publication caused quite a stir.

Refreshingly enjoyable.

Great book for those who wish to enjoy English village life. So refreshing to listen without the worry if being surprised by foul language or too much information about the characters personal lives
The only negative was the narrator. Although she had a wonderful grasp on each of the characters, her voice is grating. For that reason, this is NOT suitable for listening to while trying to fall asleep.

One of my favorite D.E. Stevenson novels!

The novel is about a woman writing a book about a woman writing a book! Genuinely funny and great characters that are well drawn. This is a story that can be reread over and over.

I wish Miss Buncle was my friend!

I love Miss Buncle. She is a wonderful sweet character. Miss Buncle turns to writing and is very good at it. However, she cannot make up stuff so she writes about the things she knows, which are her neighbors in her small village and the things that they have done. Since Miss Buncle is a sweet kind person, she does not treat her neighbors viscously, she just tells good stories. Unfortunately some of her neighbors may recognize themselves and that would be most embarrassing and distressing to all concerned.

The story is sweet and loving and even nothing dramatic happens, it is most interesting. I love the man at the Publishing Company that handles Miss Buncle's books. but most of all I love Miss Buncle. The performance of the book is excellent. Patricia Gallimore is talented and a pleasure to hear.

Fun and fluffy and charming and made me laugh

Like the soufflé light, yet satisfying fare served up by PG Wodehouse, DE Stevenson is full of that particular English flavor. This book makes you laugh, roll your eyes, shake your head and feel good in a sappy way. I liked it very much. Highly recommend.

Delightful in every way!

Laugh out loud funny! A delightful book, with delightful characters. My favorite chapter was the meeting of the outraged at Mrs. Featherstone-Hogg's. The performance was absolutely incredible. I think this book is more fun as an audiobook because the reader is fabulous with accents and characterizations.

I could not wait to keep listening. I hope the,2nd one is just as entertaining! Thank you again for your craftsmanship. I found this book bc of the narrator search.

Loved it!

So much fun! Charming characters. I was impressed by how the author was able to create obvious caricatures of people typical to a small town and yet give them such truth and depth. I would absolutely recommend this to friends looking for a light hearted read. A pleasant escape to a simpler time.

And the reader was wonderful! Like yummy raspberry sauce on a perfect cheesecake.
