Publisher's summary

To unify her family, Ave Maria must harness the power of love and its abiding truth in this lyrical and heartfelt novel, the third installment of the New York Times bestselling Big Stone Gap series

“Trigiani can make you laugh in one sentence then break your heart in the next.”—Mississippi Clarion-Ledger

Ave Maria Mulligan MacChesney has never been a devotee of tarot cards or crystal balls. And yet when the fortune-teller at the county fair suggests that it is time for her to “redream” her life, Ave Maria realizes she is wide open to suggestion. Not a bad idea considering that her beloved daughter, Etta, is growing up fast. In the face of the trials of adolescence, Ave Maria tries to prepare herself for the day when Etta will rebel big-time. Of course, everyone in Big Stone Gap sees it’s coming: Cranky cashier Fleeta has warned her, county sexpert Iva Lou has consoled her, even Pearl, now a mother herself, has lent her sympathy—but that doesn’t make the changes in Etta any easier to handle.

Milk Glass Moon chronicles the challenges Ave Maria faces in her parenting and in her marriage, with more surprising twists and turns than on the mountain roads of southwest Virginia.

Things that Last, Love, Cornbread and Beans

The third book in the Big Stone Gap Trilogy finds Ava Maria and Jack Mac raising Etta and growing older. The love between them grows sweeter (and wiser), and the stories of the town's folk are some of the best parts of the book. Pearl has expanded the drug store to three now. Jack Mac's construction company, which he and two friends opened after the coal mines closed, is thriving. Etta's teenage antics throw Ava Maria for a loop . . . and Ava Maria finds herself being the OPP (overprotective parent), while Jack Mac is the laid back nice one . . . isn't that typical??? But as time goes on, Etta does survive being raised by imperfect parents . . . and both parents finally learn to value the qualities the other bring to the table. This series has a great southern, down home feel . . . you'll laugh, cry, and come to love all these people, just like they are your own neighbors.

Alas, the final book in the Stone Gap trilogy

In this, the final book of the Stone Gap trilogy, Jack and Ave Maria raise their daughter with all the anxiety of getting through the teenages, up to her marriage. There are big changes in Big Stone Gap, and some of Ave Maria’s closest friends have some dramatic life crises. This book finishes off he series, and we are all sorry to see it end. Again, I can’t imagine anyone reading these books aloud but Trigiani herself.

The character development makes these ladies friends

Random find. I started with her 1st book in the series. Definitely stay with the order to get to know everyone, Book one hooked me within first few minutes. Pure open laughter hearing her way of describing & connecting small town life. To anyone who grew up in true some what country town you’d absolutely enjoy these books. Instantly taken back to my town. We all have a few of these folks running around town to make welcoming warm & just Home.

Return to Big Stone Gap

Big Stone Gap was the last book I remember my Mom reading. It was shared by a cousin who lives in Wise Virginia. These were my people and I found myself attached to their stories through out the series. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and authenticity of the Big Stone lifestyle.

Love this series!

This story is my favorite book in the series so far! I laughed and cried along with the characters. I got upset with main character a few times before I realized the author had just nailed a person’s real reaction not how a story would present it. Great listen!
