Publisher's summary

First in a new trilogy

From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town. There' s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There' s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there' s new resident, Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he' s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth....

Love the narrator

This series isn’t an emotional roller coaster..nevertheless I’m invested in all of the quirky characters.

Confusing and wandering

I was excited to start a new series by Charlaine Harris. However, this book just rambles. The last few chapters are the story. You could skip the entire first 3/4 of the book. I think that Charlaine has returned to quality writing, but the story is missing. The narrator does a good job, and I would not mind listening to something else she performs.

FINALLY a decent book by Charlaine Harris

For me, Charlaine Harris has been really off. I couldn't have been more disappointed with the way the Sookie Stackhouse series ended. However, this book is fresh and had some twists I didn't see coming. It's worth the read. Yay!!!

Just eh.

Would you listen to Midnight Crossroad again? Why?

No, it was a decent story but it was not thrilling enough to read again. I won't listen to the second or third book either.

Would you be willing to try another book from Charlaine Harris? Why or why not?

Yes, I love Charlaine Harris which is why I wanted to listen to this book. However, I will not listen to the rest of this series.

Have you listened to any of Susan Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

N/A

If you could take any character from Midnight Crossroad out to dinner, who would it be and why?

None of them. The character development in this book was not up to Harris's other books.

Any additional comments?

This book felt like she was trying to bring the supernatural from the Sookie Stackhouse novels and the mysteries from the Lily Bard stories into on town however, it just fell flat. There was no connection for the characters so when the end came it wasn't earth shattering or exciting. And the tension between Bobo and Figi was not very thrilling either. I really didn't care if they got together or not. It was not a terrible book but it was difficult to get through and listen to it.

Wonderful New series

Since the Pilot Mystery, Texas is on HULU I decided to listen to the 3 audiobooks for a second time. I highly recommend this audiobook. Shows this author has more in her than just the Sookie Stackhouse books.

No Sookie

What did you like best about Midnight Crossroad? What did you like least?

Best: Mr. Snuggles

Would you be willing to try another book from Charlaine Harris? Why or why not?

Yes. I love the other two series and this one has possibilities.

What about Susan Bennett’s performance did you like?

Her tone seemed to fit the characters

Did Midnight Crossroad inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

The story started a little slow but now that all the introductions are out of the way the next books may be a little more lively.

Compelling cast of characters

This is an enjoyable read, with vivid descriptions of a strange community. There were a few moments which surprised me, but the actions of the characters stay consistent with what we are led to expect of them from their personalities. I really liked the world building, and am looking forward to other stories in Midnight.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mirder mystery and lived the twist at the end. The charactors are well developed and loveable and I loom forward to reading the next book in the series.

Good Start

first book, character development is essential as well as the character of the location. Flawed characters always make the best stories and the tow is full of them. looking forward to more. narrative was excellent and fit right in

So Much Fun!

First, I'm not a fan of True Blood. I don't like the Aurora Teagarden series.

BUT, I love the author's other stuff. My favorites are Lily Bard and Harper Connelly. Manfred Bernardo is one of my favorites of the occasional characters in Sookie's life. Bobo is one of my favorites from Lily Bard. So, I'm all set to like this one. I did.

I liked it very much. Having read all the other books, stumbling across a tie-in in this book was like finding a sparkling gem embedded in the story.

More than that, it's a good read even if you've never heard of the other books. Good, silly fun--with just a bit of crazy--laid on top of a good mystery.
