Publisher's summary

In this heartwarming, suspenseful, and hilarious novel, Callahan Garrity and the outrageous band of "girls" in her Atlanta cleaning crew join together during the Christmas rush to prove that her trailer-trash brother didn't kill his even trashier estranged wife.

It's a few days before Christmas, and sometime sleuth/full-time cleaning lady Callahan Garrity has things under control for a change, until her never-do-well brother, Brian, shows up. He's kidnapped his toddler daughter, Maura, from his estranged wife, a vengeful shrew with the law on her side.

When his ex-wife is found dead, the cops suspect Brian. To save her brother and her holiday, Callahan, along with her irascible mom, Edna, and a gaggle of House Mouse employees, will crisscross yuletide Atlanta, going everywhere the search for truth leads.

Usually enjoy Mary Kay's books. This, not so much.

The story was very slow. Narrator's voice was irritating. Couldn't even finish it. Hoping the next book gets back to being entertaining.

Is it Christmas?

A light murder mystery surrounded by the custody of a child. Not really a Christmas book but it was happening around the Holiday Season. A Mother-in-Law takes on the responsibility of protecting her granddaughter from her Mother who has less that any moral compass when it comes to the welfare of her child. When the Mother is found murdered everyone involved in the sweet child's life becomes a suspect.

Callahan Garity, her aunt, is a retired PD officer and private detective so understandably she is on the case to clear her family and protect her niece. Corruption and unsolved murders start cropping up while she is conducting her investigation. A pretty good mystery with real characters. Hillary Huber's good narration added to the story and took it from a 3 to a 4 for me.

Unpleasant child custody issues

Entire book focused on difficult child custody issues, Not at all what I expected from something that appeared to be a Christmas book. Series in general is just ok, I can’t say that the characters are very likable, or that the books make me care about what happens to them - this book is not ok.

Great Series

I really enjoyed all the characters in this series. I couldn’t quit listening. I wish she would continue the storyline.

Edna’s family troubles with Bryan.

Callahan and her mother and the house mouse crew worry themselves over a little girl named Maura, of whom Bryan wants custody. Murders and trouble follow Bryan everywhere. Callahan must try to sort out who is telling the truth before Christmas Eve. Kept me guessing until the end.

Not good

I like this series but this book was very heavy and dealt with some hard topics that are not entertaining. The fun House Mouse crew was not around much to lighten the book up a bit so I’m not sure what the author was trying to do. I don’t recommend this.

Twisty

If you like family drama, this is the book for you! Exciting plots and twists that’s are feasibly able to be a true crime. Most of us have that 1 in the family... Enjoyable and an easy listen.

Great book

I loved the story, the author, etc. I did not like the voices, especially the grandma.
