It is a unique and triumphant work of fiction - at once romantic, erotic, suspenseful - and completely unforgettable.

"Astonishing...Breathtaking...You are seduced completely." (Washington Post Book World)
"...a bravura performance, a first novel that provides a vivid view into a largely lost and secret world." (The Los Angeles Times Sunday Book Review)
I see everone That has downloaded this book gave it a 5 STAR review. I wish I could give it a 10 STAR WOW! it is one of the best I have ever heard. I wish she got to see her sister. A must to read.
This book gets a head of steam and seems like it will lose it's pace, but it just keeps going stronger and stronger. Better than the DaVinci Code when it comes to cultural back ground. Even somewhat suspenseful for a simple memoir. My only issue, and this actually really bugs, is that the reader can not pronounce Japanese words that good.
I have to admit I got rather tired of the first third of this book. I wanted to get this part over with and start delving into the "secret world of the geisha". There's really not too much of that in this book. But it does get more interesting once the heroine begins her geisha studies, and it does have a satisfactory ending, in my opinion.
A very touching story, read by a beautiful voice. The author creates beautiful and vivid mental pictures. Some of the passages are hard to hear; however make the story more authentic. Well worth a listen.
The unique voice and story telling from the eyes of the young girl to become a geisha are remarkable.
This is not my usual type of book, and I only read it because a friend pushed me to read it. I am so grateful he did. It was wonderful. A classic in the making.
