Ever dreamed of starting over?
Issy Randall can bake. No, more than that - Issy can create stunning, mouth-wateringly divine cakes. After a childhood spent in her beloved Grampa Joe’s bakery, she has undoubtedly inherited his talent. So when she’s made redundant from her safe but dull City job, Issy decides to seize the moment and open up her own café. It should be a piece of cake, right
Wrong. As her friends point out, she has trouble remembering where she left her house keys, let alone trying to run her own business. But Issy is determined. Armed with recipes posted to her from Grampa, and with her local bank manager fighting her corner, Issy attempts to prove everyone wrong. Following your dreams is never easy, and this is no exception. Can Issy do it?

The plot of the book was not focused on the pursuit of love, even if it contained that sweet aspect as well, but on the pursuit of one's dream and ambitions. It was inspiring and motivating, also the recipes at the beginning of each chapter and the final epilogue where the writer gives baking advice was such an original touch to the novel.
I haven't yet read another book like the Cupcake Cafe...
I think I would and might pick up the second Cupcake Cafè book I noticed on Audible
Cupcake Romance? Nah, I prefer the original title
The reader... was talented as she was able to make many, many different voices but her tight British accent... dunno where it was from... but it was just at points unbearable. At times I even had to rewind back because I couldn't understand what the hell she was saying, especially when she was reading grandpa's parts. At one point I even thought about turning the damn thing off but stuck to the end only because the story was enjoyable.
I would recommend this book. Entertaining and light.
The mens voices wheren't good. And some women sounded whining.
"Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe"
Very good, easy listening great while ironing. throughly enjoyed and did not notice job I was doing so must have been good!!
Yes, the voices of the men were annoying and yes, the story was highly predictable but I still loved it! If you love a girly story and cake then this book is the perfect mixture (pun intended!)
Thoroughly enjoyed this, it was really well read, and the characterisations were good. It's a while since I read any Jenny Colgan books, and this has probably sent me back to read them again.
"sweet and easy"
Colgans books are light fare, but well worth a listen, especially when they are beautifully read by brilliant Penelope Rawlins.
I am amazed to read that another reviewer stopped listening to this book because of the narration. It is what makes this book come alive - the range of accents and voices used make this more like listening to a play than a book and I fell in love with the characters because of it. In fact the book and narration are so good that I've added to my wishlist 'The Good the Bad and the Dumped' by the same two people.
This is a lovely story and if you love baking, you'll find it even more appealing!
"Lovely story with nice narration"
I recommend this to lovers of light hearted chick lits
"I loved every minute ."
The narrator was fantastic, she was so good at the different voices the you knew which characters they were . I can't wait to listen to the next book. great story line.
well written characters, issy being a favourite as well a lewis pearl's little boy.
sprinkled with recipes, the character's hopes and fears, and Penelope Rawlins performance which brought all the characters to life this is a good book to listen to between the heavier stuff (crime etc.,).
looking forward to Christmas at the cupcake café.
"Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe"
Although the basic story was okay, I found the narrative not to my liking. The voices were irritating, especially that of Helena, who did nothing but shout in an unidentifiable accent. Grandfather was tolerablle, but very sleep-inducing (perhaps a good thing under the circumstances)!
"Pen needed to write the recipes"
A nice story, slightly ruined by Grandpa's voice. Loved Lewis, he was my favourite. Easy listening story with a couple of laughs.
